Where were you when d2 originally came out?

Were some of you even born, was your first entry into the series
diablo III? :face_vomiting:

If so, I hope you give 2 a chance, keep in mind theres things it does better then 2 vs 3, and vice versa…

I was 11 when 2 came out, now, I shed a tear and got chills when I saw this, memories of my best friends and I playing d1 and d2 all night came rushing back in. I miss my friends, theyre both married and I hope we can reignite our feelings of youth when it comes back out!

I never played Diablo 1 but I had watched a friend play it. I was in high school when Diablo 2 came out, spent a ton of time playing it online and tying up the phone line. When LOD came out that was amazing as well, I think I spent even more time playing it after LOD because it was so much better.

was over a friends house and he was like, dude you have to check this game out. eight hours later at around 3 AM left his house. stayed up until Electronics Boutique opened, bought it, and played until around 4 AM until i literally fell asleep at the keyboard.

First entry for me was Diablo 1. Played it at a friend’s house and then bought the game the next day at, I’m guessing, EB games.

If I remember the timing on D2 correctly I was in 8th grade when it came out. I remember planning my original character (Necromancer) before the game came out. After the initial month of the game I decided to give Hardcore mode a shot and never looked back at my SC character (and haven’t played SC yet in any game that offered HC mode).

2000? I was finishing college. I think.

Can’t recall.

I remember D1 more than D2.

When Diablo 2 came out I was in Middle School. Good grief I feel old all of a sudden.

When Diablo 2 came out, I was 10 years old and already waiting for it. A year or two earlier a cousin introduced me to Diablo 1. The darkness and terror of D1 captivated me, then the great gameplay of D2 kept me playing for years.

Before Diablo, I was.

I am technically old enough to be your mother. I was quite a few years out of both Uni and certs that came after. Years into my first career.

D2 was what got me hooked on video gaming.

I was born 3 years after D2 was released and as I grew up I used to watch my father play Diablo 1 (he gave it up at some point) and that sparked my interest in the game itself and its following ones (he also had the second instance in DVD,which looked really smooth in my youthful eyes). I realized the value of D2 rougly 1 and a half year ago and I am really looking forward to the remaster (as Gen Z,modern graphics still remain the sweet spot for me).

long enough ago to remember the pain of my mom making a phone call in the middle of a baal run. lol

I was still playing D1.

We didn’t even have internet at home during that time so I missed that a 2nd part got released :joy:

I had just graduated college. I had next to no money, just starting on my career, and cause of finances only bought D2 and BG2 in that year. I had no furniture, my computer CRT sat on cardboard boxes, and I slept on the floor a few feet away in an apartment that my roommate bailed on, further stressing finances.

My 56K dialup was more stable than the DSL I got later during LOD launch. I remember cause I died from lag from that terrible DSL connection often.

Probably playing Everquest… High school.

Started on d1 and even though it’s nowhere near as good of a game, I still sort of like the experience I had even more than d2. Bought it on a whim just from the box art with birthday money. Was a little iffy about it at first but the way it was so creepy and you keep working your way into the depths, it was so cool.

Was around 16 when d2 hit. I remember I was working at a fireworks store during the summer holiday season, 16 hour shifts (the $$$ was amazing). I got to best buy just as they closed and the doors were locked. They said they were closed but I held up my preorder receipt and they actually let me in.

Played the hell out of the game with my ex’s little brother. Over the years I got back into the game a few times, tried the mods, but always wanted an update like this. I am pretty stoked and refuse to play until launch, just so it feels fresher.

I played d3 for a couple of months and it just never really grabbed me the same way.

I was in high school. I played it at a friends house occasionally. I got both D2 and LoD about a week after the expansion came out.

I actually don’t remember when I first got into D2, it wasn’t on release. I do know it was long enough before the release of LoD that by that time I was thoroughly hooked. My brother and I went to the mall to get the expansion as soon as it was released. I distinctly remember sitting in the movie theater with the game resting in a plastic bag between my feet on the sticky floor, wondering to myself, “Why the hell are we wasting our time watching a movie when we could be at home leveling a new druid or assassin?”

I was in highschool and bought it around the time of release. Unfortunately it didn’t run well on my family PC and so I shelved it for a few years until college when I had a better machine to play it on. Dorm mates and I played a lot during freshman and sophmore years in college and there was nothing quite like running an 8-man party of your friends.

Picked up D2 in the store when it launched, simply because Starcraft 1 made such an impact on me two years prior. SC1 was and is one of the most memorable Era in gaming for me, and D2 has done the same for me, just in another genre.

My most memorable and influential games that lasted a very long time for me:

DOOM & DOOM II
Command And Conquer - Red Alert
Starcraft
Diablo II - Lord of Destruction
Half-Life
Half-Life - Counter Strike (up to 1.6)
World of Tanks
And of course Path of Exile, BEST ARPG on the market and spiritual successor to D2 LOD.

And of course the usual Commodore 64/128, Console and hand-held games from the 80s and 90s. Once I got hooked on PC, I never went back to consoles lol.

still in school, still playing Diablo 1 because I couldn’t afford the second game right away.
