Ladder mode was the most important factor for the longevity of Diablo 2.
Obviously, ActiBlizzard is not willing or incompetent to fix the “server & database issues” for this 20 year old game, so…
why don’t they start ladder mode?
Ladder wasn’t so successful because of rune words, it’s so popular because you have a defined timeframe of play, where everybody starts over.
Ranking, special events and rune words were just a nice to have.
So at this point, I (again) have to come to the conclusion, that “some people” just don’t want this to happen anytime soon, because they just don’t want a successful longevity of D2R.
Afraid of their own competition and no more money to make.
I don’t want to be rude, but did you actually read and comprehend what you just quoted?
It’s about knowing, that everybody is playing in a new eco system, for exactly 4 months (for instance) and then it’s over.
This is the core idea of ladder play and its very important for longevity.
Well then, I hope the simple question was answered.
Right now, we don’t have any of this. We are in a confused, unclear situation, where nobody knows whats going on and how long this will endure.
Many people (including myself) started d2r with the mindset of “just testing” and looking into the game, until ladder starts.
The big difference is, to know the exact timeframe for how long a new eco system will exist and everybody starts over at the same time.
I don’t see the point for not starting ladder mode, since this company is not willing or ready to really fix anything, nor to communicate honestly.
Everybody deals with the same “queue” and “waiting lists” (its embarrassing just to mention this) anyways.
The way I see it ladser resets are about mainly 2 things. A new economy, which we have and access to exclusive rune words, which we also have. For some they can compete the race to level 99 which we also technically pretend to have. So all in all there’s not much to look forward to unless there’s new content coming out.
Ladder is only needed when the economy becomes to saturated right now the economy is still pretty fresh so personally I don’t see a need for a ladder right away.
Still fresh? I remember trading many-a 4/5 socket flails for Pul well-into the ladder. Can’t even give them away now. And 40 pgems for Ist? Fuuhhggetaboudit…
No, this economy is quite mature already - looking like the last of the THREE month ladders of D2’s glory days.
With the movement of ladder-only content to non-ladder, and no serious player contemplating competing with bots for the top spots on the leader board, interacting with a truly fresh economy may be the only real attraction to any D2R ladder.
I’m not entirely sure how strong a draw that will be, though. Especially after the first couple of ladders. I’m not sure, but player counts may be higher on D2/LoD than they are on D2R after a year from launch.
Ladder system is clearly for the masochists with loads of free time.
The only good thing ladder has going for it, which i recently learned, is that the game is turned from 75% to 100% difficulty
