Where are the LAN options?

I’m having trouble finding the open to play Multi-player with LAN connections. In D2 this was how most of my playing was done with friends and getting a little frustrated not finding it. How is this a remaster when setting are more obscure to find? Send help.

Someone didn’t get the Memo. It was communicated during the development it wasn’t going to be part of ressurected.

Yeah, they removed LAN options in order to host the game on their clearly superior servers.

With 20 years to work on it and 2 billion dollars to spend on hardware, they’ll definitely have no trouble hosting the game, right?

This is non-believeable. How am I supposed to have LAN parties?

They should’ve at least come up with an equivalent alternative to TCP/IP, rather than just outright remove a feature as big as this. I’m no expert, but how much of a security risk it would be to connect with friends or family members really.

At least they didn’t go back on their word with the offline mode. Would have been a dealbreaker for me otherwise.

You can also connect through internet with your friends and family, they don’t have internet in 2021?

i was a little upset myself about it being removed but u would be surprised how many people still lan party… my buddy has an empty garage, once every other month we do a lan party… we split the room in half with a big curtain and we all lan halo 1 and 2… we used to lan d2 pvp as well… order a bunch of pizzas and lan it up… but yeah i understand blizzards reasoning behind its removal

No LAN connections. Sorry!

Something must be done about this. It is the only, glaring flaw

Yes Sadly that no LAN Connections works. And i dont think that Blizzard will change it.

Right, that seems to be working quite well for most people right now.

Sarcasm aside, not only would TCP/IP be more stable, without having to rely on the official server. There won’t be any multiplayer mods either. Valid enough reasons to want that, no?

Been a d2 fan for 20 years. Anyone griping about not having LAN because they just found out, wasnt paying attention. They announced it ages ago. I didnt like it then but I didnt cancel my order

Mods are hacking the game, and are therefore cheating.

And TCP/IP is a tunneling technology. No way anyone is putting that any where near their games now.

No, tcp/ip is just a protocol used to transfer information over a network. You are still using TCP/IP when you play diablo 2 online, and all your other games.

Not allowing you to host your own client side LAN games is to prevent people just pirating the game and playing offline, i.e. setup your own virtual LAN across the internet and invite your friends.

The issue with lan, is because lacked of autoritative server. Using p2p tech leaving the game code open through network. While on server-client the whole logic runs on server, enforces his own state and sends the feedback to client, on lan play each client communicate with each other enforcing their own state.

That’s how folks reverse engineered d2 on older days. Abused dupping, hacks, bots and created mods.

How bad a lan party can be? Well if at least one person wants do a bad stuff with their code could mess with folks who wouldn’t even use the feature. That’s why even battlenet realms were plagued.

No developer would use LAN if they plan scalability, security and keep provide any kind of support or content support. Because is insecure, costly to keep updating a thing that will be a backdoor no mat what you do.

Even hybrid solutions on the market doesn’t work well in that regard.

I suggest getting a nice ROUTER… that way everyone can have internet access at your party.

I’ve had no issues on official server besides dealing with heavy traffic last evening. I’m up to A3 on Hardcore now. So to play with other people online shouldn’t be an issue. If anything keep your eyes open, there are projects that will probably come into play eventually but that might compromise your account if you dare using them.

Now that’s just plain ignorant.

What about new 3D models and textures for example? The things modders can achieve is pretty much only limited by their knowhow and tools available, not just making some sort of godmode. Even balance patches are essentially just mods, only they’re made by the devs instead of the players.

The difference is one is paid by, and authorized by the owner of the property to make those changes, and the other is not. One is a company decision that all players will use/ access, and the other is not.

If you and other people want/ need to hack/ mod/ cheat to enjoy the game, then perhaps they should make one they own and can do so at will.
