When to respec from Bone to Summoner Necro

I’ve reached level 24 on my Bone Necro following the leveling guide, but I prefer playing a summoner. However, summoner gets stuck in the slog of slow kill in the Maggot Lair. I’m wondering when it would be a good idea to respec to Summoner or if there are some tricks to quickly getting through Maggot Lair (NM + Hell) with Summoner. I don’t have TP staff yet.

for next time,

as a summoner. when you get to maggot lair, fill your portal tome and use it abundantly to stack your summons next to the mob roadblocks. it’s annoying but it works. refill it when it runs low. use it 50 times if you need to. when you return through the portal make sure you walk a few steps away from the mobs so your summons get stuck between you and the mobs.

you’re really just porting your merc to get the first kill, so hopefully you have corpse explosion, but if you dont it’s not a problem just shop act 1 for a wand with CE on it and use it in the lair.

it’s not as good as bones in the maggot lair, but it’s so silly to use a respec for just one small area.

as summoner, craft an Edge bow for your swap, an iron maiden wand works as well. use this for bosses that oneshot your army. just switch to Edge and spam clay golem over and over till the boss dies easy peasy, you’ll absolutely need this for at least Diablo on normal.

shop tp staff in Act 3 normal ormus and use it in NM/Hell maggot lair.

I didn’t think of crafting an Edge Bow. Now I have questions:

  1. does thorns and iron maiden activate when a monster attacks bone walls or bone prison?
  2. does thorns or iron maiden return health through life steal effects like skulls in weapons (when monsters attacks the necro or merc)?
