What's up with the black squares

What’s the deal with the black squares?
My PC updated to win11 and the black squares are now almost entirely black screens. Has anyone found a solution to solve this yet?

I gonna wait for maybe 5 more years to switch to Win 11. It took me many years to switch to Win10 back then.

Windows 10 was released 6 years ago.

It’s probs not gonna make any difference, I had black squares win10 also. From memory I don’t think they were as bad as they are now but I could be wrong.

check your drivers you shouldn’t be getting black squares in either windows 10 or 11. also try the scan and repair tool of the launcher just in case and you could try reinstalling.

The laptop is 6 months old with onboard graphics, there are no newer drivers, they’re all up to date.
I’m not going to try reinstalling either. There have been several reports from other people on this forum who have tried reinstalling and it’s done nothing.

Hitting ‘g’ and switching back to old-mode makes the black squares disappear which is how people are still getting through the game.

Onboard graphics
This might be the real culprit

do you have the latest drivers though?

it could be the minimum requirement does indicate you need dedicated graphics

I don’t think so, it’s been reported here by others with a 1080.
Here’s another thread on it: Black box textures/animations in some acts - #10 by LoFaT-1708

Here’s what I get in windowed mode, the black boxes turn into red boxes:

Then switching it back to fullscreen and it’s completely bugged out:

Strangely… it has disappeared for now. After it fully bugged out in the above pics I restarted D2R and the settings say fullscreen but I can still see my windows bar at the bottom. So it LOOKS windowed but the settings say fullscreen, despite not being fullscreen. But the black boxes have disappeared for now. I suspect this is temporary and it will come back again, will have to wait and see

It’s not about what you think. Blizz put down some very clear specs out there, min requirement for graphics are either GTX 660 or AMD HD 7850. Most modern onboard graphics are not up to that standard yet, no matter how you look at it.

For the same issue, there are many causes, thus the link you attached doesn’t say much. But for your particular case, unless you can prove that your onboard is better than those 2 min requirements, Blizz is never going to spend a single second entertaining your case.

Laptops with discrete graphic cards are quite cheap these days, so I’m not sure why you choose to buy one without.

Back in your box you absolute clam. The more reports they get from different people, the easier it’ll be for them to narrow down the issue. and chances are when the issue is identified and fixed… either from driver side or game side… chances are it’ll also be fixed for me despite not reaching their minimum specs.

Before you post on the forum… inhale… exhale… inhale… exhale… and check that you’re not just being a crunt.

Grrrrrrrrraaaaaaphics. Display issues. Could very well be GPU memory-related.

BTW, I run Windows 11 too and it runs just fine. No issues with it, except for the right-click context menu occasionally bugging out on me. There are some glitches, but it’s not causing issues with my games. Also haven’t noticed any issues with the Ryzen slowing people mentioned, but it could have been patched, too.

My friend was having the exact same problem with black boxes. He said it would do it if there was any lightning or fire on the screen. To fix the problem he upgraded his computer gfx and now everything is smooth. Laptops onboard gfx are not gonna cut it for any newer games.

i get the black boxes, but ONLY with maggots. I couldn’t even load the game at first, but my waifu downloaded drivers for my laptop, now the game “mostly” works.

Blizz instant refunded me when i got the game on release saying it didn’t meet specs.

Just found my first Ohm on HC this week ^^

Yeah it does seem mostly in fire areas for me. This laptop is temporary but I wasn’t going to miss out on playing D2R. It’s made it through the game mostly fine, I’ll just have to drop back to legacy mode when the boxes come up

I think it’s a graphic driver problem. I experienced this when using my laptop which has an Intel GPU. My primary desktop which has an Nvidia card doesn’t show these black squares.

I think it’s to do with a transparency of something which is having trouble rendering.
