What's the socket recipe?

I’m trying to put sockets into a weapon. I have the following in the cube:

Superior Crystal Sword
Amn
Tal
Perfect Amethyst

It is not working. From what I have found online, this is the recipe. Is it not working because the item is superior (it’s still white)?

You cannot socket superior items in the cube. Only larzuk can. It must be plain

I had the same issue with a Superior Thresher the other day.

Also I believe it is Amn + RAL + P Amthy

Thanks. A quick trip to the normal cows got me one. It only gave me 3 sockets though. I thought the crystals sword from cows netted 4 sockets? :frowning:

They do. Are you sure it was from cows? Maybe someone else had a lower level one in their bag and dropped it to pick up something else.

It does. The only way a Crystal Sword from the cow level could give you 3 sockets is if it was a poor quality item and you made it a normal item in the cube. That would set the iLevel to 1 instead of the 28 you’ll get in the cow level.

Using the cube doesn’t guarantee max sockets. The only max soc guarantee comes from completing the A5 quest.

Ahh this is what happened yes. If he used the cube it’s a random number of sockets. Larzuk does maximum sockets.

It’d be nice if they’d allow superior items to be socketed with the cube. I always though it was dumb that it didn’t.

The item is superior!.. But inferior to normal items in that it can’t be socketed with the cube. Makes no sense.

You’re saving yourself from 1 million gold repair bills at least. Silver lining.

It has a chance for four sockets, if it meets the iLV requirement for that. iLV 36+ should allow for four sockets, but the cow level is ALv 28, and all Normal iLVs are derived directly from monster level, unlike NM/H where they are based on ALv + TC (loot table).

Actually, even that doesn’t guarantee max sockets. It uses the same chances as the cube recipe, only it can be used on any item in the game that doesn’t already have a socket.

FWIW, one won’t reliably find four socket weapons until NM Act 1, primarily in the Forgotten Tower floor 3-5 and Catacombs 3-4.
