Seriously what was the big deal.
The game had been out for 25 years, yeah…So…nothing special was done, so why was a big deal being made out this?

wondering the same, what was the point
Just a small tease on post that something big may come to Diablo 2 but might as well be whatever skins or something for D4, Immortal or Call of Duty (they put Inarius and Lilith in there, yes braindead greed) or nothing at all.
imma be real.
i think they forgot about it. some random janitor brought up that it was about to be the 25th anni, and then they panicked and posted the webpage making vague promises “coming soon”.
Its always the janitors and low level interns that make things happen
My god, are people really this dense or just extremely jaded? I understand that some might not like the direction of D4, or like me, might be getting impatient for the right changes, but egads.
Let’s look at the evidence over the past year what has been going on with D2R: Cooley posted a video last year about a behind the scenes meet and greet with the Diablo devs where it was mentioned about an itemization update for D2R. While there was no major evidence of truth, there was a brief cell video that took place where content creators were outside in an informal setting with the Blizzard devs. Around the same time, it was noticed that 2 job postings for a Senior Diablo Legacy engineer and a Diablo Legacy engineer were found by I believe Dark Jedi here in the forums. Now we have had two different Diablo Legacy job postings since April (one of which, I have read has been pulled down), then the 25th anni tweet.
Now for those that don’t pay attention on X/Reddit/D4 news, Pez Radar, the lead community manager for the Diablo franchise, got a new job title in the recent months and has been less visible on the campfire chats, stating as such on X with him planning/coordinating major stuff to announce for the future. He also has a love for D2.
And finally, we have the emails for the Australia focus group, which happened this week. Something for D2R is coming. While I may be wrong, if I were to make an educated guess based on the evidence, I’d say a few seasonal patches coming soon for the next few seasons, capped off with some sort of DLC. Since Blizzard typically has a presence at Gamescom, I’m expecting some sort of announcement by then.
Possibly. But if you set your expectations high, you are likely to be strongly disappointed. I’d strongly recommend not expecting anything, and then if there is something coming, then it’s a good surprise (or a bad one if they do poor choices).
I’d be more surprised if they didn’t at this point. It’s like the rumored FF9 remake at this point where pretty much every Square Enix title on the NVIDIA leak has come to fruition, with the FF Tactics Remaster recently announced being the last besides 9R to be officially revealed. In 9Rs case, it too is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year, has had a site with merch created, and Square’s social media has been posting 9 art images every day counting down to the July 7th date, where most seem to be speculating a reveal then.
I think the point to temper expectations is what updates they will do. But I believe it’s hard to not expect something at this point.
The “big deal” is that Blizzard suggested a new update was in the works. Simiarly to how there was a significant patch to War3 after the Warcraft anniversary.
My bet is still “25 nights of terror” or some similar event stuff. Besides i really dont trust the current devs at blizz when it comes to making any changes to this old game. We dont need another D3/D4 dumpster fire, there is a reason some of us dont play any of those games
I was watching Cooleys stream and he seems to have some knowledge that the update will be significant.
It would be nice if the lobby was able to function properly and automatically populate channels such as “Chaos” “Baal” Cows" to the top of the lobby channel menu.
it’s risky if significant. could turn the game into something less fun
this is my safe space when all the other games mess up. hope they dont ruin it.
unless its a full on xpack with purchase i guess. then the people can choose to get it or not.
It might be a good idea to make a game backup, in case things get messed up. I don’t think theres any way to handpick whatever d2r version you want to play like the original game.
Correct, no legitimate/official way to play old versions of D2R because of the 30 day check in DRM that would force you to update. That would also make backing up pointless.
My guess they are trying to again hype d4 and changes. The base game sux and it will be hard to unsuck.
Every single one of you need to go read this topic
Why is your pessimism more correct than our optimism? Why know equaly about the future of d2r. Beside that, your post doesnt say anything, just sad vomit.
Special about 25th is that TXan making 5 threads in a few hours
It’s not pessimism
It’s logic
Diablo 1-2 is to Blizzard what Cinderella is to her step mother
They aren’t the one that created it, they prefer the IP they created
