Blizzard of old couldn’t keep their servers stable either
I was playing last night and now my character is gone…
It’ll be back. Unless you deleted it on accident.
Sure. I work in tech and architecture/uptime specifically in the fintech industry. I don’t know how it is in game world. Things go wrong. But when things go down 3 times in a weekend, weeks after launch, people are getting fired. But again I have no experience in game industry and don’t know what the standards are supposed to be. Activision has a ton of cash though so scarcity of resources isn’t the issue.
Yea this was fine in the early 2000’s when this was the norm but I expected things to be more stable with a 2021 launch and all the architectural options available that make old pains obsolete. Perhaps they did want to give us the full, classic experience after all - lol.
I think gaming is a bit different than fintech.
What do you work in btw, trading algos? blockchain?
All I know is every gaming company ever has server stability issues. And Blizzard has consistently had problems their entire existence. Game servers get attacked, surges in players, wide range of computers to support, network problems out of their control, ISPs, etc etc.
I wouldn’t, but that is just me. I would be wanting to find out what is the cause of this and find a fix and apply it asap. I don’t go right for the jugular like most people do.
Its the weekend and every weekend during a new ladder, players from sites like d2jsp try to ddos the server in an attempt to dupe.
Its nothing new. Its not the servers. Its players doing it.
You guys playing HC are braver than I am.
Not the dreaded “Honeydo” list… NNNOOO!!!
Said in best Australian accent possible
What we’ve got 'ere, is a whoite knoight in it’s natural 'abitat. Notice 'ow he shills for the man even as the man takes advantage of 'im. Notice the look of joy in 'is eyes as 'e pays for something that doesn’t even work.
Now this creatures normal diet consists of large quantities of heavily processed foods and drinks, but as you can see 'ere though, 'e’s sustaining himself on the droppings of an apex predator.
Notice the glimmer of pleasure in 'is eyes as he asks for more.
A truly magnificent specimen folks! Stay tuned for next weeks special!
best game mode^^
and prevents you from ever having EVERYTHING if you make a stupid mistake (e.g. walking in Duriel’s chamber on a day like THIS*G)
I don’t agree with you.
I used to play more than 12hs a day back in the days (2001) in bnet, and servers almost never crashed.
Game is so broken. Chars missing, disconnects from server, constant crashing. Joke.
Total speculation with no evidence. If that’s true then they should tell us. If they don’t provide a reason then we must assume it is incompetence.
Think about this way… in terms of a game launching, I have never been disconnected more than I have been with Diablo 2 res.
I’ve also never had a game take up so many resources on my computer. Somehow D2:res uses up more PC in ‘legacy mode’ than using regular high graphics.
And, the final kicker- Diablo 2 Res has had the most crashes on my PC in 1 week of playing… then all of the other games combined in my entire lifetime.
They CHOOSE to purchase cheap low quality servers, because they know their little fanboys and paid 3rd world shills will stick up for them. They raised the price of D2 res by $20 because they knew they could.
FFS, the Starcraft 1 Demo servers had literally no issues at all, D2 never did, Wc3 never did, never had a problem on literally any game except since Activision took over.
suprised im the only one claiming it to be DDS attacks on thier servers lol
i would even bet they are streaming it
It’s very clear what the issue is btw. The bots overrunning their servers and they have no way to ban them because they hadn’t prepared a team.
Notice how this wasn’t happening during the first week or two… that’s because the people who bot were coding and fetching base items for their goldfind/magic find bots.
Now all the lobbies are being spammed by bots, the bots are creating games over and over if they get a certain type of waypoint layout, etc.
Now… this all could have been prevented if they hired staff that knew about D2. But that would require intelligence. Activision doesn’t care about intelligent setups, it’s a profit company.
Easy answer: Incompetence.
small trash indie company wants to ruin the last good thing they have left, wow didnt die fast enough apparently
Lending/AI space. Less volume than gaming but a lot of complexity in the sheer number of integration of things.
You’re right, it’s a whole different beast.
