This is very much debatable. The game is not really designed for PvP, its mainly a PvE game and every quest is based on PvE, not a single quest requires u to engage in any kind of PvP which is why the game should first and foremost be balanced for this kind of content. Just because some members of the community invented PvP to be a thing doesnt mean that the game should be balanced around their personal preferences.
Yeah I disagree with that statement pretty hard as well. Iād say less than 10% of people even vare about D2 PvP.
End game of D2 for me is making dumb builds work, and doing challenge runs. I just think there is MUCH better PvP to be found in many many other games. Frankly kind of boring watching people TP around and spam skills at random while hoping someone lags into an invisible projectile eventually.
Not everybody is willing to pay real hard money to join the GM pvp leagues, where a start-up gear starts from a couple thousand dollars up to 30k.
I have one good character that can pvp most really good people and I have spent zero dollars on the game, just spent time to understand mechanics and find/trade for near perfect gear.
Maybe not everyone plays pvp on D2R but itās legit the only thing keeping the economy alive so it has a huge effect on pvm as well. Without pvp and lld almost nothing is valuable besides first couple days of ladder.
Do you have actual data to support that claim, or is it just a narrative that has been pushed for a long time by the PvP community without any actual proof behind it?
I mean to be fair I bet D2 PvP players are in fact the largest consumer of china bot farm items.
I mean paying to win and big egos go hand in hand. Iād be willing to bet if all the PvPers left, the economy would actually be a heck of a lot better for the normal folks that play as botting would lose most of itās profitability.
Hell I bet most of the Baal bots were ran by pretty much the same people. Those that want to level to PvP. Iād make the argument that D2 would have been a better game without the PvP toggle.
So yeah PvP in a way could be considered the endgameā¦ if you consider botting the endgame.
Why do you hate PvP so much? Botting and p2w are very lame but are not intrinsically linked to pvp.
Yes the actual data is in the fact that perfect items are worth a ton. Pve even in 8 player tz can be done with far from perfect gear.
A grief you can get for one lo rune is better pvm than EDC which is worth way more. If you need the data from someone else you should play the game more for a deeper understanding of the economy.
It has more to do with that fact that higher end gear with better rolls arenāt needed, and often donāt even make a notable difference in PvE. PvP is going to be innately more competitive in that aspect.
Also you have to consider the initial mindset of people who donāt PvP vs people who do. One set naturally wants to spend less time doing PvE related activities but the requirement of gear needed is even higher. So less time spent farming yet needing better gear. They are also going to be directly competing with people who ARE buying gear, so either they never sleep again, play at a disadvantage, or whip out the credit card.
While some people who PvE certainly buy items as well (particularly an Enigma) they also have a different goal post in mind, and that goal post is generally the only thing there is to do in D2 for PvEā¦ farm items. Seeing as they enjoy farming, they naturally find much more of the stuff they need without paying for it, most refusing to buy anything at all because their goal IS to find it.
For the record I LOVE PvP, I just donāt think D2ās PvP is good. There are just so many games Iād rather get my PvP kick with that D2 doesnāt register on my charts. I do really enjoy it for itās mindless farming though (itās almost Zen like) as well as doing challenge runs with awful builds.
Maybe you were able to trade or find a pvp weapon when they were not prohibitive. A decent cruel+fools+erep weapon is far from affordable.
That is true. I have a grief ba and a lot of different items and charms to be able to play zealot vrs all. Works well for most matchups but yes erep fools weapons are amazing and super rare so very expensive. I do not have this currency to obtain but grief is gm in most matchups and cheap nowadays. Gm melee is lame imo, no movement only attacksā¦too restrictive and huge gear bias.
I think someone spending real money is equivalent to using cheat codes and instantly makes the game zero fun.
All kinds of affordable and good pvp builds especially with say trap sins and their now ability to lower enemy resistance. Or walking zons or most necro/druid/pally builds can do well on a budget of self found/self traded gear.
I also have multiple Griefs in multiple bases, some almost perfect, but none perfect. More i knew Grief is BM.
Also not one 100% perfect item of gear or perfect charms. How can I compete when others have full inventory of 3/20/20s?
Thatās ultimately what it boils down to. If I want to PvP in a game, Iām not going to spend 300+ hours farming/trading first. Only to end up having to buy crap anyway because the season will be dead by the time you get finished. Iām just going to jump in another game and instantly PvP lol.
Not to mention the things you need are so hyper specific that you might just RNG your way into never seeing a lot of it, forcing you into trading, and dealing with botters anyway. If you have an inventory of 3/20/20ās there is a 95% chance most of those were farmed by bots lol.
Thatās why I only PvPed on D2GA that let you set your character to level 99 and had free gear available (and let you import any gear that gets checked against a validator, so no items that canāt spawn legitimately in game), makes it nice and easy.
Wouldāve never done PvP otherwise cause yeah gearing is slow and expensive. Too bad the option isnāt available in D2R, not yet anyways.
Grief isnāt bm vrs zon or sin or casters only some melee vrs melee. Also have an EDC and a deathz which are pretty cheap now as well for non perf.
None of my items are perfect.
With 3.8k hp, 15kdmg crits, 23k armor a zealot can vrs a ton of people with GG perfect gear (even though my items are much more affordable)
