I have been putting together some guides for myself and running a bunch of tests while offline that i intend on publishing at some point on basically taking any class at the start of ladder and gearing them out/building wealth.
For my paladin stuff, i’m trying to figure out if being a smiter would be a way to do it. I know that early on in ladder, once you get a torch racket going of 4x3 keys for unid torches, you can snowball yourself pretty quick to having a ton of torches and trade those away for wealth.
The problem i have is getting there. Generally i’d probably start off as a FoHdin and do a lot of chaos to level up and get some budget smiter gear. I personally feel you could gear out a budget smiter and build wealth much much faster than any other build if you can do it quick enough.
But the main problem i have is, what do you do as the smiter when you don’t have keys? My current theory is that i’d start off as FoHdin, and work my way into hammerdin, then farm 1-2 sets of keys, then respect to smiter. But early on you are gonna have a ton of downtime while you wait for people to give you keys for the torches.
In light of all that, what exactly CAN a smiter do (even if it is a bit slower than most) when they aren’t doing ubers?
If you have a decent FCR and use Enigma Key runs and Andy/Duriel/Mephisto.
If you start anew and have little gear it’s better to run a different build that has some spare gear to turn into a smiter.

I’d try a build where you pretty much telestomping elite packs and using some type of item to make trash mobs run away. Then just smite away… they’re not very good at anything other than single target but it might be possible to make with nigma for farming elites.
you get on a nova sorc and farm keys… lel

They should have high resistances so Tranvical runs work decently. Add Shenk and Pindle while at it.
My goal is to have it stick to the single character.
Play smiter foh hybrid. You don’t need to go full smite for Ubers. You could also do hdin and just put 1 point in salvation and 1 in fana for Ubers
Don’t main as a smiter if you just want 1 char. Main hammer or FOH (I don’t care for FOH, but it does okay P1). Then have a hotswap smiter setup. So make smiting your secondary and one of those two your main. Now you can do everything.
you use a token, respec to foh or hammerdin, or zeal if you are very rich, and save a token to respec back when you have keys farmed up.
This sounds interesting to me, how does this work for hybrid smiter? And for hdin, how does that work? Never seen an hdin do ubers before.
EDIT: Nevermind, found a llamasc guide on it. This looks to be exactly what i was looking for.
For PvM, pure smite is lame. I would rather play as a Zealot or FoH for PvM and naturally your smite will still be strong AF to handle dclone/ubers…

Hell my pally was a FoH/Hammer hybrid with 1 point smite, 1 point fanat and had no issues with Ubers. Just swapping to Gore’s, Ravenfrost, g-face, Black, Dracs. Smite’em low and finish with hammers or holy bolt.
No ubers in that, and got cut short, AND it’s from quite a while ago when I was still playing, but honestly… build can handle anything fairly quickly. Forgot to show the weapon swap, but I believe it was black/sanctuary?
Smiters use the parking lot, get drunk and what not, and wait for their call. Thats all they do. But when at work, they do it quickly…
Smiter, pure smiter, is always my second character I build, after a MF sorc, because the Clone comes at the beginning of ladder quite often. And after level 76, wearing draculs, they are just parked.
To the actual subject, you can play Zealer too, it works with a smiter just fine, without misusing skill points.
I made a fohdin/smiter so when he doesnt uber he runs CS, WKS, Fetish Jungle, Pits etc etc
Zealer with one point in smite and a CB weapon on swap is all you really need.
