I was talking to a few friends the other day about changes we’d like to see in D2R.
Some would like mercs to have full equipment slots.
Others would like some kind of infinite farmable area, or an asynchronous trading system.
Inventory space with a charm bag, quivers for Amazons, and maybe an offhand for Sorcs.
Then I realized something: we had it all. Diablo 3 at launch had those features. It had a market, legendaries were hard to find, and many ‘insane’ endgame items were rares—just like D2. But the players screwed it all up.
‘The game is too hard,’ ‘Drop rates are too low,’ ‘The AH ruins the game.’ And look what happened. Loot 2.0 was the nail in the coffin. The power creep was immense—more powerful items and insane HP/DMG scaling. Those who played D3 in its prime know the game was hard. So why did it become this soulless thing? We did it. We asked for things we thought we wanted. In the end, the game was left to die. That’s probably why a huge part of the D2R community is afraid of changes.
So, what’s my point?
We should think about what is future-proof. Stop thinking about the ‘now’ and realize how this impacts the game in the long run. Truth be told, despite all its problems, the game has survived long enough for us to realize they are doing something right. I’m all for new things—even some level of power creep with items, builds, or monsters. For me, at least, the things that would kill this game are high drop rates or some kind of endless Paragon-style power creep. QoL, buffs, and new items would change builds and how we play, as long as those two things don’t happen.
PS: There’s no right or wrong, everyone has an opinion, so we can argue in the comments without being assh*les.

Drop rates are an absolute gem of this game. They should be protected at all costs.
As I see it, Heralds are the biggest threat to the D2 loot system right now. Too many casual players whine, and the devs are overreacting by introducing and testing poorly designed changes that could potentially ruin the entire item hunting endgame in D2. At least they were sane enough to revert the PTR Herald drop changes for now.

I think that most people is simply not capable to give suggestions which would not harm the game. A lot of people is selfish so they want changes for them, they dont care if its good in general for health of the game.

I think the Devs should not be listening to any player to begin with..
some people would like to think they know better than others and are asking for nerfs or buffs for the benefit of the game..
But the fact is they don’t.. they are just as selfish as everyone else.
Devs should just go with their development goals and ignore the players opinions… Unless it aligns with their development goal.. basically don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.
So you want what you want and thats ok
If someone else wants something different then they are selfish
Hmm ok. You really are a mini d22000
The real change that needs to happen is attack rating for melee and a modifier for melee attack range. The system is just broke.
Teleport needs to not go through certain walls.
Martial Arts assassin needs real fixes.
Which walls ans what kind of effect on gameplay are you expecting? Trying to imagine a secenario where teleporting 5 times to get around a wall (getting around the wall you cant tele thru directly) vs 1, whats it really matter
The problems with D3 are legion. Just because they addressed some of the problems with D2 doesn’t mean they didn’t invent dozens of new ones.
“We” are not the problem. There are a lot of things about D2 that are rightly criticized, and would be a positive change if addressed

Yeah, it’s why personally i just largely just want to see balance changes to skill and items and not much else change-wise. The mechanical and systemic foundation of D2 is absurdly good, its just unpolished in terms of tuning and creative freedom in terms of builds. That’s entirely fixable without touching the core mechanics of the game.
Look man I like D3 for what it is but don’t you ever dare compare D2 to D3. That’s a fallacy
Yeah D2 needed improvements but they went too far and pretty much changed core gameplay elements making it feel like a different game.
For example there was no need to invent new skill system of generators/spenders/cooldowns and making every skill use weapon damage.
In every proper rpg, spells and weapon attacks are separate mechanics.

The main issue with D3 was that it was called Diablo when it had close to nothing in common with the first 2 games mechanically or artistically
When people were imagining what D3 might be like in the 2000s they were imagining an evolution and refinement of Diablo 2’s mechanics and storytelling.
Instead they got a pixar fanfic with simplified mechanics and incompetent system design.

I can not bear with d3,d4, poe, torchlight, etc…their cartoony style and look.
maybe because I am too old to accept those

so now maybe you understand why we all hate on people posting these wannabe D3 updates
Yes, they are. Their constant sniveling and arrogance cripple this game. They demand more loot, faster rewards, less challenge, overpowered characters, and endless power creep. Then, once they get what they want, they quit anyway and start yapping about how bad the game is.
We already saw this happen with D3 and now since RoTW was released, they’ve been plaguing D2 with the same dumb requests.

Pretty sad situation, noobs running rampant and here you are, the real fan, rhe real vet, the one that deserves everything, but gets nothing.
Gee whiz it’s a sad state of affairs, really is when real fans like you and d22000 dont get what they want and just noobs ask blizz for anytning and they get it.
Dont they have your phone number?? You’ve Given it to them right??
It’s a way to nerf teleport without changing function and leveling other movement skills. Huge areas like durance2, flayer 3 or anya are examples. If teleport was limited around corners or walls to only so many yards of an opening, developers could put nasties in to make the trip a bit more challenging. I would also support giving teleport use charges. Like limit 5 recharging every second.
At what point do you feel like a sorc becomes able to teleport with no risk/challenge?
I play hardcore and my sorcs barely tele unless I can pretty much see where I’m going. Mostly use it to reposition my merc or or essentially walk faster
In softcore maybe I wouldn’t care yhat much and spam it anyway but I would almost certainly die. If you’re just blindly teleing thru durance in nightmare wirh crappy ladder reset gear, good chance youre gonna die

The prime was when expansion released? If we go by amount of players. It wasnt as hard as early on. That game changed alot and it only proves ppl want different things. D2 was more nisch while d3 was for the masses. Its no secret that d3 sold more than d2 did by a huge margin even though some ppl wont accept or believe it. It seem that ppl who want harder games are a nisch. The gamers overall seem to like more relaxing games. Obv it depends on country. For example korean rpgs require more grind than Western rpgs.
D2 is much less popular in EU compare to US. Just like RO is more popular in Ph or asia than in Eu and US. Personally I love a little bit of everything.
