We all know D2 had a major impact on D3 sales. But does D3 have a positive or negative impact on D4 sales?

Note: Acquisition is not only if you bought it but also if you consider(Ed) buying it

I’m asking this question because roaming these forums and discord, I often see people saying stuff like “I’m not buying this Diablo 3.5”, “i was wary to buy because I fear they don’t learn from D3”, etc

So I rather check on the playerbase to see if those are isolated occurrence that happens to be a vocal minority or a larger sentiment or if it’s the opposite but those are just silent

Latest D3 season with the Altar system was a banger.
I think were D4 lost a lot of customers was with the “pay to play earlier than other players” kinda BS.

D4 will gain many sales from casual players and game hoppers, probably because of D3. But it might also be the reason why less people will stay and stick to it.

D3 lost the longtime franchise fans and tended to game hoppers. D4 won’t change that

As far as the impact of D3 on D4 sales, I’d have to say both yes and no, but leaning more heavily towards yes.

As far as Yes: Diablo 3 and the upcoming Diablo 4 have a story to tell, which IMO is a primary reason to purchase a game in the first place. That being said, one could say the Ultima game series had an impact on the sales of all of the Diablo games, because the Ultima game series had a fantastic storyline IMO. A lot of people crave a good storyline… Just look how many books are available to read.

Then there comes the game genre in general, the “endgame” and the individuals taste in games. If one likes the isometric ARPG genre, they are more likely to purchase Diablo 4.

As far as No: D3 may have pushed the individual to a “burned out” position. Everyone has their breaking point. The more isometric ARPG games there are, the more diluted the pool of games in the genre becomes, and the more an individual might think, “If you’ve played one, you’ve played them all.”. (Just think of how many FPS games there are.)

it never was a banger. It was always trash.

Tbh i think that early D3 before RoS was so much better than today.
