Way to improve whirlwind

Ways to improve whirlwind, one of the few things that diablo 3 did better than d2 is attack animations, whirlwind is one of that few things, whirlwind should get some buff on damage and chance to hit and be reworked to spent mana per second u let the mouse button pressed, then u adjust the action to be of free movements, that way whirlwind will be more fluid in combat and will get barbarians one tier above.

My WW Barb is at ActV nightmare now. I don’t see the problem. He’s a killing machine.

U said nightmare, hell is another thing, barb is behind others for ages now, he only can kill monsters in hell easy after having grief, and that is why barbarians is the less played class, all build are weak vs others, u can see at pve tier list, he dosent have a A-tier build. Hammerdin, Blizz, javazon, poison necro, windy, trapsin, all these build are better than any barb build.

basically OP wants cyclone instead of Whirlwind :wink:

Tier lists are typically subjective.

Support barbs tend to be one of the best support classes out there if not the best.

Fury barbs also tend to be very effective.

From my perspective, the problem isn’t necessarily the class itself, it’s the items, primarily the weapons. Good weapons are hard to come by with good stats. This seems to be true for most Melee characters, and some even would throw the bowazon in this category as well, but are less hindered due to range.

Mages get away with it because they don’t require to cover nearly as much ground as melee characters. Chilled? Who cares. No AR? Who cares. Need more dmg? Just stack + skills. Even their stats are more straightforward. STR for items rest in Vit. The list goes on.

Buff rares, sets and uniques across the board, and melee characters who depend on weapons will stand a fighting chance. Even sorceress can get a good blue that gives +3 to all skills but good luck being a zealot paladin getting a good weapon that increases your dmg enough to be of value in hell mode.

i dont know poe but barb cant even use a potion while whirlwinding, man he is so weak, playing diablo since launch, i know what im talking about.

D3 didn’t do it better than D2 lol. Literally everyone loved ww for the entire development cycle of D2 from classic - 1.09. Then they randomly nerfed it and melee classes in general in 1.10 and game development stopped before it could be balanced. They could just revert it to the classic or 1.09 versions and it’d still be great, even with the gimpy melee items/balance.

Barb is best magic and gold finder in the game (running pit, trav, pindle) due to find item, and you dont need grief for those.

I mean, I’m always down for ww buffs. But my bvc is pk monster and has no issue killing anything :man_shrugging:t2:

I don’t know that it needs a dmg or attack rating buff, but I do think it would be more beneficial to hold the mouse and “channel” the ability like whirlwind in D3 (or cyclone in PoE).
The way it currently is, it’s clunky, and I find more often than not, that if I’m too close to a mob, it does a melee strike for the ww mana cost, and wastes my mana. And being locked out of potions during ww is very detrimental.

I see videos of the “triangle of death” and mrllamasc does a good job of explaining it, but I can’t make it work. My ww barb is decently twinked out, but stuck at NM Duriel, because he’s too fat to do small triangles around, so it’s punch punch, annnnnd I’m out of mana again. Not fun. So I shelved him for now.

I agree that more fluidity is needed, but not more damage.
