Warlock Nerf: Right or wrong?

Refining the Balance: A Critique of the Current Meta

Is it truly justifiable that only three classes are capable of efficiently handling 8-player lobbies? It is concerning that, after thirty years, the meta remains so stagnant that only a handful of builds can clear Hell difficulty within the first 48 hours of a ladder reset. Even recent additions, such as the new Assassin builds, require a prohibitive amount of high-end gear to reach their full potential. Anyone familiar with platforms like D2JSP understands the exorbitant cost of investing in a build capable of “p8” efficiency.

Instead of radical shifts, the focus should be on addressing blatant imbalances such as the Warlock being able to dispatch Ubers using nothing more than a basic “Insight” runeword.

The Progression Gap

The natural progression of a player should involve reaching Hell difficulty, farming Acts 1 and 2 to strengthen their character, and then gradually advancing through the final acts. While farming speed may vary, every class and build should be capable of comfortably clearing Act 1 Hell. Currently, that is simply not the reality.

The Disparity in Minion Builds

There is a stark contrast between the effectiveness of different summoning builds:

  • The Summoner Imbalance: The Warlock minion builds are monstrous for us, and it should be possible to complete the content slowly and easily playing as a minion, because Warlock minions don’t die as easily as Necromancer and Zoodruid minions, which need very good gear to survive. This limits their ability to reach Hell Act 1.

Anyone who has tried to level a Druid or a Necromancer minion knows how difficult it is. They should be noob-friendly builds. Unfortunately, that’s not the case; they’re tier C in terms of leveling.
Others like the Necromancer or the “ Zoo Druid ” struggle significantly.

  • The Boss Problem: It is fundamentally flawed that a Necromancer, a class designed to be beginner-friendly, sees its summons decimated instantly by boss abilities.

  • Gear Dependency: To make these builds viable, a player needs a full inventory of Skillers and level 40+ skills. For a casual player or a beginner, acquiring such gear in a reasonable timeframe is nearly impossible.

Just my opinion. Same reason I don’t like Mosaic nerfed. Nerf is always wrong for paid game. They should work on balance before release. This is not F2P that players are testers. Nerf rob fun and waste players’ time and resources. If warlock is too strong, buff monsters hp by 50% or more. The other weaker classes buff their xp gain for 50% or something. Buff druid xp gain for 100% XD. Just a suggestion for easy fix. Inspired by Warlock apocalypse skill explodes after drawing the 5 star on the ground, which looks nice. Maybe they can do the same for druid armageddon. Add a screen wide astroid finisher that hits everything after the meteors (that usually hit nothing XD) is about to finish. Druid will be immediately great again ~ Seriously armageddon by the name should inflict the highest damage in the game.

Must be nerfed 100%. Too strong with zero gear.

Yep. Needs to be brought into balance with the other classes.

Nerf please. 2020200

Totally has to be nerfed. They removed Mosaic and added Warlock. No difference here.

No nerfs. This is not WOW an MMORPG but a mostly single player ARPG. Simple fix for you, do not play Warlock.

if you enjoy single player so much go play offline and mod use your character edit

ive seen hundreds of open battle.net characters less broken than warlock.

100% nerf. He has to be on the same level like the other classes. I like the warlock he has cool skills but they are to strong. U can beat the game with just weapon.

warlock MUST be nerfed, just like mosaic must be removed. as they are, they are two monstrosities that shouldn’t belong in D2.

It does need a nerf, but they knew that already.

I don’t think it will be so much fully nerfs as more of fixing the broken mechanics happening in the background.

If they nerf it too much, I’ll simply quit. I liked his minion version; I think it’s good. It allows the player to enter hell in a balanced way, playing slowly. You can’t carry 8 players obviously, but it’s very chill to play.

No nerf yet would be my choice. I do not think the Warlock is more powerful than a Blizz Sorc, LF Javazon, Hammerdin, or certainly a Mosaic sin. Let’s see what happens in the next ladder.

The builds and videos you are watching on YT are with people brining over all their previously farmed up gear in single player or non ladder. It will be alot different in a fresh ladder.

Due to all the above I would say, wait and see. One or two skills feel underpowered, one or two may be slightly overpowered. But nothing like Mosaic.

A certain YouTuber already made a video beating beatdown all Ubers with just insight!

Interesting, I will have to go find that

there is absolutely some broken stuff happening that has to be fixed. People are clearing ubers and hell full player games with just a weapon equipped. lol

It’s a broken p2w class currently. Yes it needs to be nerfed heavily down to the same levels as druid. It shouldn’t be the top minion, top melee, and top magic caster in the game. It should be average at all those things instead

I mean fixing the echoing strike scaling bug should fix that. I don’t know if nerfs are required but bugs where the damage isn’t calculating correctly lets start there.

personally, im just gonna do a normal ladder this time around

it’ll be nice having Mosiac not overtake public games, and having some balance – before all the sorcs get geared, but at least that’ll take more time than 2 random mosiacs equipped

warlock being able to clear p8 with ease in dumpster gear just doesn’t seem appealing for the same reasons above
