One thing I REALLY liked in Diablo 3 was that vanity mirror that allowed you to make any item you wear look like any other item. I am not asking for “Dyes” or “trim” or anything like that, but, Would it be so difficult to just make a vanity mirror Next To charsi that allows us to make our armor pieces and maybe our weapons look like other items we own or have owned? Hell, just the helm, armor and shield and weapon is just enough. We don’t need intricate details. Just an option to make our characters look a way. I doubt it would be difficult or be too time consuming to make. The sprites are already there for all the stuff.
That’s what I want.

apparent gear has a code assigned to it that tells the game how it looks and what color in the pallet its gonna use
it would need to be something that changes the codes for one specific piece gear without changing any other version of the same gear so almost certain new code would be required
another thing worth theorying over is how would that happen in pratice
maybe something like…
- 1 new commodity, “empty shard”
- cube recipe 1,
1 new “empty shard” + a piece of apparent gear = apparent gear looks stored in the new “full shard”
- cube recipe 2,
1 “full shard” + a pieace of apparent gear = apparent gear gets the look contained in the full shard
full shard is cosumed/lost
- give the “empty shard” the drop rate of a facet
this would satisfy those who want a Xmorg system while also introducing a new tradable commodity heating up the market in the process
Looks is just one of the attributes of an item that you have to compromise with.
Want to wear a shako? Too bad, you’ll have to look like a fool with a green bag on your head.
It is how it should be. Players shouldn’t be given all they want at once. Fun in the game is in finding balance and compromise. Don’t want a green bag? There are plenty of other items to chose from. Slightly worse in some regard maybe, but won’t break your build.
I wouldn’t mind if socketed gems would recolour all items though. Then you could have a red bag instead of green
but really. why…? and how would that we logical from within the game…
The problem in my opinion is that there’s often too big of a power gap between the items, not just “slightly worse”.
Take the Heaven’s Brethren set for example, it has beautiful art assets with the weapon, the crown, and the shield but the stats are quite underwhelming. It’s basically a mid-late Nightmare tier set but it has elite items with very high requirements that are outdone by stuff you can acquire at much lower levels with lower stat reqs.
Not saying everything has to be “shako level” useful, but I think it’d be fair to close the giant gap a bit.
FWIW they actually did stealth buff Heaven’s Brethren in 2.4 and that did help a bit.
Yeah it’s a shame noone wears that sick crown. So the solution IMO is to make it better. IMO they did the wrong approach in attempt to improve sets. Best D2 sets have great items on their own and good green bonuses on them, and that’s what the heavens set is lacking

Yes, I would like to see them improve it too. I think they were afraid to create “legacy items” at the time so they avoided that by changing the partial/full set stats which apply retroactively.
The door might be open now with the removal of knockback on the BK sword in 2.7, so maybe we’ll get more base stat changes on stuff in future patches.
I hope so
But they really should try to not make legacy BiS this time, so buffing bad gear while leaving the good ones the way they are is the only way i can think this wouldnt happen

i disagree with the op but it is hilarious how threads get hijacked…

Maybe they could fix items balance/requirement so maybe we dont have, for example, 100% of players wearing light armor.
More than worrying about creating legacy items, I think it’s reasonable to have the worry for players with a tendency to grail that they would need to check what items have been updated every three months. That was one of the many frustrations I had with Path of Exile.
Also, it’s important that they be careful with what they change. It’s very easy to find yourself powercreeping in a rotation like they did (are doing?) with Diablo 3, or simply pushing a buff way too far like they did with Mosaic, which is bad for the game.
