So before D2R, I had never in my life seen a really high rune (Ber, Cham, Jah, Zod, etc) in all my years of playing D2. After ridiculous amounts of farming and trading, I was finally able to get 2 BER runes and make my first Infinity ever for my lightning Javazon. I built it, equipped it, and went to town killing stuff. It all sounded so great in theory.
And then I felt how completely underwhelming it actually was. Before Infinity, I went around jabbing lightning immune monsters to death, but using Infinity doesn’t really help me that much. My merc is an idiot and lags behind me by so much that I can’t really use thrown javelins from a distance because the mobs don’t have the conviction aura on them. If I run into the fray and use charged strike, the mobs are still Lightning Immune until my slow-mo merc decides to show up, and by that time, I could have just killed most of them using Jab like I was before anyway. Even when the merc gets in range, there is a delay before Conviction actually affects the mobs.
Am I using Infinity/Conviction completely wrong, or is there some trick I’m missing?
I really hope people aren’t going to just say to use Teleport because after months of farming for an Infinity, it would easily be several more months before I could even afford an Enigma for teleport.
I knew they were buffing up mercs from A1, A3, and A5 (including specific rune words for them), but I didn’t realize this was the movement AI as well.
Hold Shift and Attack to bring the merc close to you is a fix that should be inpatch 2.4 !
Not evey character has the oppertunity to use teleport skill, espcially early levels!
I don’t think this was ever mentioned, not sure if it’s a thing, will have to look. I know they’re adding skills and utility to them, but as far as i know, they already tried to “fix” the mercs/summons, and they did it poorly.
Yeah i also did not see anyone mention about Mercenary AI and movement fix in the upcomign 2.4 patch but only buffing act 1 ,act 3 ,act 5 mercs , i heared from various users that Summons and Revives AI are currently in a better state but still needs some more tweaks!
It’s certainly better than it was, but SOOOOO many times I still have to drop a TP and come back immediately just to gather my summons on a boss. They get stuck on literally everything.
The big issue is that conviction takes a moment to affect monsters resistances. That delay on top of waiting for your merc to catch up to get the monsters in the effective radius makes it even more annoying. Teleport is a must have.
Naj’s is awesome. The only strike against it is that, if using a controller, you have to rebind the skill every time you start a new run (it only takes about a couple seconds to do but it’s annoying). If they fix that in one of the upcoming patches, Naj’s is probably going to be a permanent replacement for Enigma on at least a couple of my characters.
So I actually have a Naj, and I used it for a while (not excessively like I would if I had Engima since it has limited charges), but it’s great for going through walls (farming countess).
I was using CTA and Spirit Monarch in offhand switch. Is Naj really that much more worth it?
they really need to fix this lol
Enigma doesn’t unbind, but a teleport item with charges will.
quite a pain to bind stuff using a controller. Can’t even switch to mouse and keyboard for that because your UI switches over along with the hotbar stuff
You must disc with the gear stuffed and swap ot it before disc. When reconnected just swap back to use main weapon and it does the trick ! Just to remind to disc with tp item on (you will, i discovered it with my necro, using tp staff from act 3 normal, and changed my life
The damage increase of infinity is far from underwhelming. In fact it is argueably the single greatest damage increase for any elemental build. Merc/Minion AI is underwhelming. Maybe the range of the Aura is underwhelming. This is why teleport makes it so much better.
