Upped Exceptional Unique Item did not change stat

I just upgraded an Areat’s Face helmet from a Slayer Guard into a Guardian Crown using Perfect Diamon + Lem + Ko, and the Defense of the helmet did not change one bit.

The required stats did change to lvl 72 and 196 str, but the Defense remained at 358 exactly the same it was before the upgrade, making the said upgrade totally useless and a waste of rune.

Since I thought I was losing my mind, I compared it to another Areat’s Face I had upgraded last month, and its defense had definitely been increase for the first one (447 def in that case).

Noteworthy: the helmet was just Larzuk socketed, and the upgrade was done in Normal. However there was nothing in the socket yet. I tried adding a jewel to see if it would “unbug” the item, but alas, it did not.

That’s because it is NOT a bug.

Items AND their upgrades have Stat ranges that overlap. Sometimes you get lucky and get the higher end of that range. Sometimes you get the lower end of the range. At least, in your case, you say the range did not change. You were lucky the Stats weren’t lowered.

I wish players would stop posting these kinds of “bugs” and learn how the game works first. After 21 years, there’s tons of D2 information on the internet.

Hey buddy, no need to be strong worded here. I’ve played D2 in 1.08-9 and I’m new to the whole “upgrading items” thing.
I get what you said, and I understand the range principle, but I did not understand the range was rerolled at the time of the upgrade, and it looked especially suspicious since the defense number was exactly the same as before the upgrade, to the digit.

Slayer Guard 93-120 defense
Guardian Crown 117-168 defense
you just rolled 117 to 120 for sure on same item
is no bug, no worry

Indeed, what really threw me off was the fact that the defense was exactly the same, like nothing had changed at all. But I understand I just had really bad luck

That’s weird because while I completely understand how the game works I went ahead and looked into it before implying OP has no basis or being rude without reason. I upped a total of 6 different Arreats in the past week to test this and each one has the same exact def before and after it was upped. I upped 3 of those in a row literally just now before posting this and got the same results. Are you claiming that in all 6 of these situations I got so exceptionally “lucky” to get the exact same def before and after upping them? Ignorantly claiming something isn’t a bug doesn’t help the community, developers or game in any way. Next time maybe test it out or just don’t comment but certainly refrain from being rude to a fellow player.

Uuuh, yeah, I mean the chances of having that occurring are just too slim for this not being a bug. Statistically, you have way more chances of this being a bug than having 6 dice rolls ending in the exact same number.
