Upgrade pc to reduce load times?

Load times and portal times are so long it makes it difficult to MF as fast as I would like. I’ve noticed other streamers with very fast portals and load times. Does that all come down to my PC specs or is it on the bnet side as well?

My current specs aren’t the best.
Amd fx 4200 & 16 gb ram. Everything on a SSD

Thx

The only upgrade beyond a SATA SSD would be a NVMe drive, which your motherboard/CPU platform do not have native support for.

You’d need at least an Intel i-Series 6th gen+ or AMD Ryzen 1st gen+ based platform for native NVMe solid-state support. (And the chipset/board support for it, as some don’t have it)

NVMe 3rd gen drives can reach peak read speeds of 3500MB/sec. 4th gen will reach up to 7000MB/sec.
SATA by comparison is a peak speed of 540MB/sec, which is the maximum bandwidth of the SATA bus.

You COULD get a PCIe card with a NVMe slot + a NVMe drive and install your games on it… While you’ll exceed the SATA bandwidth limitations, you won’t be able to use the full potential of the latest generation NVMe solid-state drives.

One issue that could be a problem if you go the PCIe NVMe adapter card route is if your computer has enough PCIe lanes available to run the drive at 4X. If not, it will drop down to a slower multiplier, or not run at all if you have no lanes available.

I have a regular HD, 16GB RAM, and a 2GB 1050ti video card. A couple of friends have really expensive gaming computers, and others are similar to me. Sometimes I load in quickly and so do they, other times some of us are loaded in while the door on the loading screen hasn’t opened for the others. All with fairly decent internet up and down speeds.

Honestly, everything seems very random regardless of what type of HD or other hardware we have. I believe the “issue” is the game itself.

Yeah I had the same feeling. My load times have never been as fast as some others though which made me suspicious

I’ve used that cpu before and I can say that bulldozer is really sluggish when it comes to load times. You best bang for your buck would be to get a Ryzen CPU with a new motherboard. It used to take 4 to 5 minutes for a game of Civ 6 to load on my old bulldozer based PC, but it’s so much faster on each of my Ryzen based PCs

Personally think the problem is in the game itself.
Have a strong PC (and D2r is installed on an Samson EVO 970) and a lot weaker laptop, when I LAN I take my laptop and don’t notice a real difference when playing at home.
Do notice a difference during weekends, so I think the server load will affect it and it’s probably just another case of bad programming.

I think its the game. I have d2r on my nvme 970 evo. Some places in the game load super fast, and yes, the population of the game will make this deviate, however, for some reason when I go to Tristram, it takes a LONGGGGGGG time to load. (relative to the speed of the 970 evo).

I’m running nvme and it’ still way too long to load. Can only hope they can improve this in the future, but it’s not the hardware.

Somebody brought up a good point a while back though. You notice when you hit a wp, while diablo doors are loading, you can actually move your character. I will do this all the time. I have memorized the paths from the wp to seller and usually I am spot on. My point is, and the point from ealier… is it possible the load screen is just a… what would you call it? (edit: Placeholder?) oh god, I cant even think of the word. Basically, if I am moving my character, then the game has loaded. The loading screen is just as long as it is, because its been set to a certain time? I hope that makes sense.

Yep, I was doing this on Pindle runs. I’d be almost to the portal by the time the door went away. (or stuck on something  )

I hate getting stuck! Its actually exciting to see if you can make it to the sellers unrestricted, lol.

I’m on 16gb 3200 mhz ram, Ryzen 3600x, rtx 3060, game installed on a samsung 980 nvme drive, which is one of the fastest drives you can get.

Game still takes 20-30 seconds to change acts and probably 5-10 seconds to go to a waypoint I have not been to yet in the game.

Load times are just kinda long, not much you can do about it.

I do not think an upgraded PC is gonna do the trick. The game optimization is currently not great. I hope this improves with time though. I do want to eventually play Hardcore.
