Upcoming D2R China Client - The “chaos we’ve yet to unleash”?

https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo2/s/j5KGETkRve

Blizz China is now showing that D2R is available for pre-order, with an assortment of pre-order bonuses including an extra stash tab, temporary experience/gold find bonus, a China exclusive set, etc. Credits to Pavke for finding this and posting it on Reddit.

Soooo… guessing that’s the 25 year anniversary “chaos they’ve yet to unleash”? Since China clients of games are usually on their own separate game servers this would be a nothingburger for existing D2R players, except potentially an exodus of Chinese players from the trading economy.

Also apparently they’re gonna update/change Mosaic, at least in the China servers. Matt Cederquist was one of the devs on the D2R dev interview with MrLlama and has also worked on some of the D3 seasonal updates (I think? Tanis can correct/elaborate on this one) for context.

Here comes the wall of threads from hoarders asking when we’re going to get it.

this is not bad,
it is investment, development, a step forward in any case

equivalent to accepting that the game has potential

even so, the market is unpredictable, especially in the ways the west and the east affect each other

so, yeah, not what we expected, but a step forward

This is not a good sign for the future of Diablo2… i fear the most. :sob:

They definitely have more to reveal for the regular D2R community. With 50K+ chinese players about to join in, I think they will be starting to take D2R more seriously.

No way they would finally admit it’s the best Diablo.

D2 still has one of the greatest communities in all of gaming. It’s very rare for a game to have a following like this. Not even Halo has that (in fact its been dead for decades). So the fact that Blizzard spat in its face for so long is just ridiculous.

The amount of views D2 content still gets on youtube is crazy. So yes they should stop coping and just admit it already.

Considering that the focus group was in Australia, and the tweet was posted in English and retweeted by the US CM for the franchise, and the recent Vender CDN update on Blizztrack, I’d say no. However, this does give us a prelude to some interesting updates. More stash tabs (one of the images I seen showed 1/3 pages selectable), which means up gradable stash space which would presume that the data limit for character files has been updated.

This is also a test run, with no deletion, looking like a 3 month cycle. D3 went through the same process recently in China.

I bet they get one fewer stash tab and have to pay for the “extra” one lol.

I would make miles better and funnier p2w in 1h

Fair enough, I’m just massively jaded at this point and assume nothing will happen heh. It doesn’t really matter to me either way cause I’ll likely just stick to my mod.

Shared stash tabs (which presumably is what the extra stash tab is, at least I think it is because it’s already doable/been done with mods so wouldn’t need extra work from Blizz) are handled by a separate file that have the 8 KB per tab, so I don’t think increasing the limit on the character files themselves is on the table, at least not for the regular D2R client.

Maybe it would be for the China client since they’ve got their own servers and they have the opportunity to do it now. Warren/Kabryxis said in the past the reason why they’ll probably never increase the limit is because it’d require a server architecture update/overhaul which would be far too much work to change post-launch, especially with the risk of bricking everyone’s characters.

Or something to that effect anyways, it’s on an old thread here that I’m too lazy to hunt down heh.

Hmm, in other news apparently they’re gonna update/change Mosaic, at least in the China servers. Matt Cederquist was one of the devs on the D2R dev interview with MrLlama and has also worked on some of the D3 seasonal updates (I think? Tanis can correct/elaborate on this one) for context.

its updating right now…so…thats it…

I think it’s pretty obvious something is coming. When you look at Adam’s Retweet of the 25th announcement, in the replies he has an emoji which read something like “triumphant” and in many of the replies to other jaded people trying to “gotcha” him into admitting “D4 Bad” he mentions how much goat he feels D2 is. Remember back during pre-launch all of the leaked surveys, I still think it was him that compiled the questions for those, which were probably a mix of forum and social media (reddit/twitter) posters as well as his own wish list.

If they already did the work for the China servers, then you throw a character copy into the PTR and test the change, maybe with Ladder reset simulations like they did in the first PTR for D2R. Hell, remember the first PTR was a week or two was to change the server architecture for game creation load since the servers were buckling so bad, they had to institute login queues.

Yep. I almost thought Matt left Blizzard too since I really figured he would have taken over updating D2R after D3 was put into maintenance mode. He directly responded on the D3 forums as well on multiple occasions (even commented during the dev stream with Llama on being in the forums).

Interesting. Most companies would not want to have 2 codesets for one game. Looks like M$/Blizz will have 2 codesets, 1 for China, and 1 for the rest of the world.

I wonder if we will see any of the updates. And what will the changes (if any) be to the fundamental game

what photo is that from? whats china joy?
and i did get an update on my diablo 2 too today. I dont think its anything significant or worthy of getting excited for huh?!

I opened the Chinese D2:R Blizzard link to look around, let the browser translate it, and noticed this:

“…uses magic to enhance his superior combat skills.”

:man_facepalming:

sounds like cheating. lol why dont they add a shop to buy resurrect tokens for hardcore while at it  silly.

i guess it’s gonna be a different ladder. has to be.

From what I’ve read, it was supposed to be non season. It’s a beta test run for what looks like 90 days (hence the bonus lasting for 90 days). China servers will be segregated from the rest of the world, as due to the amount of changes to graphics and text to fit with the country’s regulations.

That’s a pretty typical online translator mistake in my experience, at least I’ve ran into it multiple times with Japanese and Chinese on mangas and whatnot.
