Tal set used to be a ok’ish quick cheap setup with decent stats to just hold you over until you could afford better gear but in D2R this is no longer the case. Noobs are now getting Tal set fever by watching streamers in pretty purple and hearing out of context information about what the set is good for. This demand has driven the price of the set to be equal or above what better gear costs, making it no longer the best in slot at its price point.
Hmm, possibly, but that aside, one thing for sure, is there is quite a few new players, and Sorc is popular. All sorc related (decent) items i see listed in game are pretty pricey still. Hehe.
Before I got burned out playing too many MF runs, I was just running good ol’ Wealth/Occy/Spirit/Goldwrap random rare mf rings and boots/gloves. Still using a lore shako, but that’s just because Harlequin Crest is another of those heavily streamed/sought after items so everyone wants the world for theirs (was very lucky to find my own occy complete with 15% ra jewel early on). My survivability is fine with this stuff, I’ll find my own damn shako and put my single um in it when the time comes.
Tal Rasha set may be overpriced, but the streamers are showing it off and recommending it for a good reason.
Unlike other class-specific sets, the Tal Rasha is pretty strong. It has a good amount of resistance and magic find even as a partial set.
The 3 set bonus (Ammy, Belt, Chest) provides good resistance and MF by itself and you can add other combination of unique items for customization.
The 4 set (Ammy, Belt, Chest, Orb) again provides everything that the 3 piece provides and -15 Lightening Resistance (Rivals worst rolled Griffon), making this a decent choice for pre-Griffon lightening build or even an end-game lightening build that does respectable damage without sacrificing MF too much. Unlike runewords, Orb, and chest can be socketed based on whether you want more light pierce (Facet), MF (Ist, topaz) or resistance (Um).
It’s pretty difficult to come up with unique items combination to beat the combined effects of the set bonuses without sacrificing damage because Tal Rasha is just a good balance of resistance and MF.
I personally think mf sorceresses would have flocked to Tal set regardless of streamers hyping this or not.
If you use ‘other’ places to trade for items fairly then yea go for Tals partial. But realistically, most people trade by looking at games to join in hell mode. If people weren’t wanting Griffons Eyes for their Tals pieces this would make more sense.
Tal chest was going for high runes like Lo and actually selling for that. It’s come down a lot, but people are still trying to ask for more than it is currently worth just like shako. Its still good for a vex or so.
Agreed, I got vex + ist for Unid one yesterday.
tal’s armor allows you to equip oculus instead of the budget wizardspike + wealth setup for mf, but that’s all about it
full tal set is a noob detector ofc
Happy to take anyone’s tals armor/ammy if they don’t want it
Full tal set? Yeah. 3 piece tals is really nice for certain builds though.
this. if you want to do MF runs before you can stomp everything through sheer stats and levels, tal rasha’s is the way to go. it’s just a well rounded set that works amazingly well for any sorc build, whether you go single pure element or hybrid.
it may not be the most +skill effects you can get from gear, or the most resistances, or the most damage reductions all that, but it’s the best “all rounder” set you can get. and it leaves you free to choose whichever shield/boots/gloves/rings to complement your spec around it.
you can run magefist for extra fire skills and damage, or you can run chance guards for more MF. same with boots. you can chase more resists, or get more magic find, etc. you can run spirit shield, or if you’re happy with your resists and survivability you can go with rhyme for more magic find or use something else that fits your needs.
it takes serious investment into runes and having amazing luck with unique drops or trading to do better than tal rasha’s set with runeword gear
lol, that was never the case. The chest has always been super rare as a drop.
three set tal is bis magic find. Which is really the point of the sorc. Sacrificing mf for more damage is pointless at a certain level.
i’m not sure what the problem is. sorc is by far most popular and arguably best MF character. every new season back in classic d2 followed a very similar path in regards to the most sought after items. i was fortunate to have found multiple tals armor and get most of the set myself. had to trade my friend for a tal’s ammy. but as far as tal’s not being required is old news… lot easier to either farm a random skullders or find lem/ko/tir to create wealth if you really care about MF % which is overrated in itself. but in reality sorcs can easily farm any boss with completely trash gear + kiting…
If you want to mf on hell with a sorc parts of it are pretty useful but I never wear the full set. Not sure if I would call it a noob trap though.
(I use the amulet armor and belt)
It does get replaced in the end with the 200%fcr sorc when I only need keys instead of items though.
this. tals is so popular because you don’t NEED to spend a jah, or a ber, or a vex or a bunch of ists to make sorc rock’n’roll with it. instead it’s super easy and fun to level a sorc and use it to farm those runes and other uniques to kit out OTHER characters like pallies and barbs and zons and assassins
Chest, belt and ammy the best MF Tal trio for sorc together with Shako and Occy. Calling people noobs is rude. I can make a fun of you making reference to streamers but I won’t.
I am not a big fan. I would rather stay around 200% magic find so I can get greys for runewords.
Any more mf than that and you do not gain many unique drops, yet you screw yourself out of bases.
Plus since you can kill so much faster the loss in mf does not even hurt your unique finding chances.
I do not run any of those on my mf sorc outside of shako.
Even deaths fathom is better than occy for a pure blizzard mf sorc.
And I’m on 550MF with all of those and don’t have a single issue to kill anything at my lvl91. Worse case scenario - my lvl90 hdin with 450MF is always in a same game with sorc.
The point is that OP probably never had Tarn/Iceblink/Culvens/Pavise/Soj sorc and is calling soneone as a noob. Class sets where horrible before revamp. Some like Aldurs are still bad, but Tal is very strong if you don’t have access yet to expensive runewords.
