First of all, my specs are:
intel 12900k
32Gb RAM
rtx 4080
Windows 10
I was able to play with no problem with my previous card rtx2080ti.
I upgraded today the gpu to an rtx4080 and the game crashes just upon reaching main menu.
I uninstalled all drivers and installed them again.
My windows 10 is up to date with latest patches.
I uninstalled and installed the game but no luck. I also deleted the settings.json file for the game to create a fresh config file. No luck neither.
What could i do? I would really love continue playing this game.
Tried diablo 3: it works perfectly.
Also tried destiny 2 (not a blizzard game, i know…) and works well too.
So crashing in Diablo II Resurrected typically has a localized cause. That this issue started after changing out hardware and that we are not seeing widespread reports of crashing with an RTX4080 or similar also point to a localized technical issue. Which is a good thing because with a bug, all you can do is wait and hope it gets fixed quickly. But local technical issues can typically be diagnosed and addressed through troubleshooting.
It is definitely a good idea when changing out hardware to wipe any drivers for the old hardware off the system and do a clean install of the drivers for the new product. You mentioned uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but depending on the method used it is possible bad settings or corrupt driver data remained behind.
I would like you to perform a clean install of your drivers by completely removing the old drivers as follows:
Click “Official Download Here” then open the downloaded file. It will ask you to extract to a specific folder. This is usually going to be the same folder the file was downloaded to (“Downloads” for most people)
Open the folder created and double click on “Display Driver Uninstaller”. It may ask for permission under User Account Control. Select Yes.
It will pop up a screen saying, “This seems to be the first time you launch DDU, Let’s look at the options.” Click Ok, Leave the options set as now and click ok. A second pop up warning you that you are not in safe mode will pop up. That is ok for now. Click Ok.
Select Device Type: GPU and then under Select Device choose AMD, Intel or Nvidia. (If you have multiple brands of GPU you will need to run through this process twice.)
Choose Clean and Restart. Let the system reboot and you should be on the default microsoft GPU drivers. Visit the following link to get the proper drivers for your GPU(s): Geforce Driver Results | NVIDIA
Next, reset the in game user options:
Right click Windows Start, Open File Explorer
Navigate to C:\Users'Windows User Name’\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected
Delete the Settings.json file
Empty the Recycle Bin.
Retest, if the issue persists, then it may be an issue of software conflict with other programs using the GPU or something with the Windows Profile itself and what it is expecting versus what it is getting.
Once the account is created, shut down the computer, wait 60 seconds, restart, log into the new profile and try the app/client.
If that doesn’t solve the issue, then I recommend submitting a ticket with an msinfo attached for further investigation. (instructions for collecting that msinfo report will be on the form.)
Click your name at the top right of this page, click support, click contact support.
EDIT2: Nevermind, back to the initial situation, even after removing again the config file. Thanks anyway for your help. Dont worry, i will be playing Diablo 4 in 2 days so… im not worried about Diablo 2 not working anymore for me. However, im curious to know what could be the issue…
EDIT: now it only crashes to desktop while on main menu. If i quickly click on create game, it loads in and i can play with no problem.
Ortiginal reply:
GOD BLESS YOU GOOD SIR.
after the cleanup, i got some more crashes to desktop while changing the video settings. But i finally managed to set everything on ultra and i was able to play!!!
