Hey all, we did some tweaks earlier as Jambrix mentioned, but we’re forwarding reports that this may still be having issues up. Appreciate the updates.
The behavior we’re seeing is like there are multiple different game lists within the same realm and we’re randomly hitting one or the other. So if we happen to end up with the same “list” then we can join each other’s games, but more often than not it’s telling us the game doesn’t exist even though it clearly does and we’re both in the same realm. Either some weird state issue/conflict with the service that is keeping track of the games, or multiple instances of that service somehow running in the same realm? Seems like something strange like that is going on here.
How is this issue not resolved yet?! It’s been several days and I STILL can’t join games of friends! What the F is going on at this trash company! FIX YOUR GAME BEFORE LEGAL ACTION IS TAKEN
Conclusion - The split of the servers still exists. However it is done more smartly (but with 1 BIG BIG Pitfall) . This is the “tweaks” that the blue post spoke about.
So now - it is based on region where your Battle Net account has been created. So for example you created your account in the UK and play in Europe region - you will be able to connect with players who created their account in the UK - you will be assigned to one of the IPs in Europe and you will enter this IP every time, not beign able to connect to the other IP. But you will be able to play with your friend, because your friend most likely will be from the UK too. However if your account is from Russia for example - their accounts will be assigned to the other IP server (this is only assumption - I dont know how they split the regions ) and people from Russia will be able to play with people from Russia.
However People from the UK wont be able to play with people from Russia FOR EXAMPLE (AGAin I dont know how they split). The Servers from each region do not connect with the other server in the same region.
This is also for cross region. If you try to play / trade with someone on the other server you just can’t connect with him no matter in US / EU / Asia you are trying to join. You will always join on one of the IPs on the US / EU / Asia and they will always join on the other.
So all in all servers are still split. 2 days ago you were assigned to one of the servers and you could quit/rejoin the game to change the IP so you could play with your friends. But if you are 5 people for example everyone to do that would become a nightmare. Today you are assigned to one of the servers every time. But at least you can play with your friends again (in most cases, if your bnet account is created in the same region as your friends bnet account which is in 90% + of the cases) and find each other games. The pitfall is you can never connect to the other server. This is bad for trades and if players from different regions want to play they wont be able to all.
This is a temporary solution blizzard. You need to make sure that the servers communicate and everyone can join with everyone on the whole realm. Your target should be now - Yes every player from a same region be connected to the server of the same region. But the people from the different servers in the same realm should be able to communicate and join each other games. Because Now we are separated.
PP. This is only my assumption and I am not absolutely sure that this is what is hapening. But at least friends can play together again in most of the cases. I can play with my friends, however tried to make some trades and couldn’t reach one of the traders at all, no matter on which realm we tried to trade.
Having the same issues today. Just lost a trade because I couldn’t get in to a game with the guy. I restarted the game multiple times trying to get in to his game and he did the same trying to get in to mine. Both on Americas, completely ridiculous and annoying. In the end he got the item from someone else. I don’t understand how over a month after launch the problems with the servers are worse than ever. Not sure what the heck is going on but I’m a Site Reliability Engineer for a living and this is just mind blowing to me that you haven’t been able to at least get this somewhat stabilized during that timeframe.

The rate limiting time seems like overkill and the cooldown time could surely be cut roughly in half so that you’re not punishing people who are doing legit Mephisto runs. I can only do about one third the number of runs I could previously in the same timeframe now that this rate limiting is in place, but I was never hammering it excessively like people just doing pindle runs.

This “split server” issue is pretty ridiculous. I mean, your team clearly understands the architecture on the server side so why is this so hard for them to track down and fix? You have a service that handles game creation and joining for each region. Clearly there’s something going wrong with that service. I’m not sure whether this behavior is some intentional thing you’re trying to implement or what but it’s making online play much worse than it has ever been.

Every day at around the exact same time (about 3 to 5pm Pacific) we start to see tremendous lag on the game servers. Lots of rubber banding while teleporting. It always starts and stops around the same time and is clearly a capacity issue (need more game servers, or need to be able to dynamically scale them up and down as needed during those peak times). This makes the game virtually unplayable when it happens and is another major issue which has yet to be solved.
Also, the cooldown indicators which you’ve added to the lobby are nice, but what about the “Play” button to spawn single player games online? It hasn’t been added to that and it really should be.
Still busted, been trying to join friends for 1 hour and 27 minutes now constantly restarting D2R after every try. Friends literally live down the street… so definitely not a matter of what region you created accounts in. This started for me today after I updated D2R…hmmm. Can someone take their head out of their butt over at Blizz?
Ive worked in quite a few network and server environments, granted a little more important than the ones these clowns work in, but entire teams would be replaced over this incompetence.
Note that the main problem we’re seeing is not being able to join each other’s private / passworded games in the same realm. Public game joining seems to be working ok for the most part.
FIX THIS GARBAGE BLIZZARD… do yer damn jobs people. and i demand u give me a Jah and Ber as compensation for my lost time.
It is obvious that the split of the servers was intentional (which I knew from the minute I realised there is a split) and it was a “brilliant” idea of one engineer in order to reduce the queue waiting time (which is reduced). But the price they did it (not beign apple to connect with all the players in the same realm) is absolutely too high. This is idiotic solution which have to be fixed. Instead of finding a legit way of improving the service, they come up with bandage fixes which are making the things worse (not beign able to connect with all within the same realm is MUCH WORSE than the queues) than before.
