So I started up the game after a week of not playing to see there are queues now like in the old days. I started at 404 which was funny. It took about an hour and half. I just finally got in to the options and character choice screen.
I see that the tab was toggled into “offline” so I switched to online like it was when I played last time and what it had always been. And now I’m in another queue!!! Position 301! So I had to wait an hour and a half in queue #1 to get to the point where I could join another different queue at 301?
Is there a third queue waiting for me here?

Had this happen to me. The best part was, when I finally got through the second queue, I got “cannot connect to server” like gee, wish I would have known the server was down an hour ago, thanks Blizz…
They should have a rune word Qu-Eu-Es: Slows down time, enemies line up single file before you, their heads explode.
I just logged in game and facing a queue of 214.
I will see about the separate queue trick. I have yet to experience the other one. Stay tuned!

So after a 37 minute queue time, I was able to get into the game. I was not in offline mode, and I did not encounter a separate queue time.
And just as a side note, I wish the queue time had some music or ingame play. That would be entertainment. Give us some eye and ear candy during our waiting times D2R devs. Thanks.
Finally I just wanna say that this queue time can be a positive thing in aiding us with time management skills. For meshelf, I prepared and ate breakfast, and lathered my feet with Neutrogena moisturizer. And as soon as I was done with application of said petroleum based product, vuoila kapow, on with the game.
I think what you’re seeing is the queue for different servers. If you think about it, each server probably has its own cap, and each region has multiple servers. So when you force it to connect through bnet ‘online’ again, it might land you on a different server with its own queue.
I just got hit with two queues as well: Started first queue, position 280 @8:15 am, got to character selection screen @9:45 am. It was set to offline characters. I clicked online characters and entered another queue, position 455 @9:45 am.
Wow…
Judging by first queue, it will be a while…
