Title. Credit to the guy in this thread who first mentions it and it explains why the game worked for me one time when i reinstalled my GPU drivers one time(It messed with my sound when it did). I will also mention that you can turn the sound back on after disabling it. BUT, it will also prevent you from going back and making a new character if its on from the looks of it.
Again, this isn’t a fix for the problem where you hit the play button and nothing happens. In this variation of the problem, the game actually begins to launch when you hit play(a black window will open up), but crashes. This is what the solution in the title fixes.
Tried disabing every sound and still nothing…
Do you have a cpu that supports avx? Does your game start up and crash or can you not even click play? This works for some if your game actually launches but then crashes with the unexpected error message.
Yep i am stuck on play > not play button , still not seen the loading screen even
Then unfortunately you might not have a cpu that supports avx. Hopefully blizz patches it soon for people with cpu’s that don’t support it. What are your specs?
I have low specs. However i tried both closed and open beta and everything was fine. For what i have seen there many people have the same issues with very high end specs.I guess we shall just wait…

so if you get a black screen and then crash error, that Isnt an avx problem?
Yea but then it;; just crash cuz blizz sucks
They said AVX is NOT needed for d2r , so they will fix that asap i hope*
Correct. This is all speculation but from what I can tell is if you can’t even hit play then it’s a cpu issue with avx and sse but if the game launches and then crashes with a black screen it might be an issue with something else. I posted a thread about turning off realtek because that’s what worked for me because I was getting a bunch of sound and music errors in my crash report. Check yours under file explorer if your game actually crashes like mine was.
Thanks for your information!
You can get it to run with realtek as well. you just need to untick “Disable all enhancements” in the enhancement tab. If you have that disabled the game will crash when you press play
People are thinking somehow they added avx after the beta which would explain the game doing what it’s doing for most with older hardware. Who knows though. I just know if you have newer hardware this is what worked for me for a temp fix because I was getting sound errors in my crash report.
Where is the enhancement tab? For some reason I don’t see anything on my end.
starting to wonder if its my firewall, normally my pc will ask me to allow (game) to make changes pc when i install something. I never saw this pop up now that i think about it.
Community manager just updated us.They are working on AVX issue as we speak…
I’m not sure if all have it but I found it in the sound options for my realtek digital output. I had it ticked and couln’t launch the game. But when I unticked it the game launched fine.
Great! I have sound with my headphones on so I guess I can’t complain. Hope they fix this soon!
