Is this an item that people further on in the game would be willing to give away for free? I need to respec my sorc since I messed up and Hell is really difficult. If someone would be willing to give one for free, how do I go about asking for that in game? Or is this something that someone would really want something in return? (I have nothing really).
If you can’t get it for free, you can try collecting, cubing and trading perfect gems for one, or the essences to create one. Not sure how many to offer, but I’d start low and work your way up until someone bites.
I’ve never used it before, so I don’t know how it works, but what about the respecs from the Den of Evil quests?

The Token of Absolution is an item that can be created in the cube. For people who are in the end-game, they are farming all 4 bosses to get uniques and what not. These bosses also drop essences - andy, meph, diablo and baal drop difference essence, and each one combined creates the token of absolution - which lets you respec.
These tokens accumulate over time. I remember I had dozens of them many years ago and I never used them - it’s just a consequence of doing your normal farming runs.
The real sucky thing is that a new player is not in a position to farm these things yet. I honestly kind of wish they dropped in nightmare too, but they don’t.

Ah, okay. I would help you out, but I just got my first character in D2:R to nightmare last night. Hope you find someone who can help you out Katie.

I wonder if the devs would change this and let them drop in nightmare - I think that would be a good change. I mean, if you’re in a position to beat all 4 of these bosses on farm enough times to create a token of absolution, you probably don’t need one lol

Yep. The only essence I even found was from Duriel actually. I didn’t mention it though because he’s pretty hard to refarm.
Its not really supposed to be easy to respec in D2. There was a long period of time where you couldn’t even respec once. Make a mistake on a skill point or stat point, whelp make a new character.
The 3 free respecs SHOULD be enough on their own. Generally people use 1 after they get to the level to unlock their main skill build skills with 2 others more for fixes to stat points as gear changes to meet min requirements. Your not really ment to keep changing skill builds on the fly in D2

I read that they drop in NM, but only in D2:R, not OG D2.
I know that, but this is 2021 and redoing the entire campaign to hell over a couple of days is a giant waste of time imo. I won’t learn anything during normal or nightmare that I already don’t know.
And yet it harms no one to have more. Frankly, this should have been changed but a very tiny % of vocal people didn’t want it and held the game back from people who are much older have lives and jobs now compared to when they were kids. It’s completely out of touch with the audience for this game.
I agree that the 3 free respecs should be enough for everyone…if there wasnt a horribly easy way to have the respec go wrong with the shift key. I simply wanted to shift a couple of points from one catagory to the other, but to hell with me cuz i held down shift one time in 100 clicks and now its all in strength. Ive seen so many people with this problem, respec should have a confirmation box. So basically, now im screwed because I dont have the items neccessary to trade for one.

Overreacting much ? 40$ down the drain because you have to play a little more to get those respec tokens ??
I mean its your loss but you could overcome this easy and move on , wont be too long to get those tokens made since you already have lvling gear

OP – you beat Act 1 Den of Evil already/burn your 3rd respec?
Getting a character to hell takes a weekend of focused gaming if you have the leveling gear for it …
And yes , endured your bad respec enough to earn a token , either solo , with friends or in MP and respec properly while being more careful .

Another 5 hours of grinding cows and no better runes (just more 4soc gear) , I think ill either have to get very lucky with a rune or have someone take pity on me.
The problem with this token is it requires baal and diablo, which unfortunately cannot be rushed to and killed.
Hey guys, anyone has an extra token? I screwed up my build by holding shift (thought it would work like in d3) while respec and now I have 350 str on a javazon. I am lvl 65 hell act 1 and i cannot farm my own token. Also, I do not have any good runes (best i have is Dol) but i can give them to you, and i have some perfect gems. If anyone could help me I will learn how to play an instrument and compose odes in your honor, on top of whatever runes and gems i can give. Thanks alot!
Make a game asking for a free token or trade an el for a token. I’ve seen players with a stash full of them and will probably drop them for free if you ask.
