It would be nice if this actually increased light radius for players like me that play in Max Darkness.
I like the dark element of the game but would also like it if light radius felt like my “torch” was actually brighter.
As it stands it basically does nothing

Agreed, the difference between light radius in Legacy graphics and D2R graphics is night and day.
In original D2/Legacy you can easily see the difference when you change your light radius, in D2R you have to look very, very closely at the edge of your light radius to see the tiny difference it makes.

It shouldn’t even matter to most players that just crank the brightness.
Scared of their own shadow
I kid.
Darkness doesn’t bother me… I just peer into the darkness with my earballs. Worked in the OG, works even better in D2:R, because you can hear monsters a lot further away.

You and I both know that majority of players play on max brightness
Look at any videos on YouTube, they are
Blinding

Yep, myself included, and it’s still dark.

I was actually curious as to how much the difference the difference is for Light Radius in Legacy vs D2R graphics, so I did a comparison.
0 Light Radius (default):
+8 Light Radius (max):
-8 Light Radius:
-12 Light Radius:
Apologies for the long post, I tried to hide the images using the “Hide Details” feature but then you’d have to click on the link to see them, it wouldn’t display them.
As you can see though, +Light Radius barely makes a difference in D2R compared to the difference it makes for Legacy graphics, it only really changes the light reflection on the ground below them (almost like the character has a light source on top of them). Perhaps a quirk of the 3D graphics system.
Also take a look at the sandbags, in Legacy graphics you can see quite a bit past them with +8 LR but in D2R you can’t see any more past them than you can with 0 LR.
I’d suggest opening the pictures in new tabs so you can easily swap between them and compare.
On the other hand, you can see -Light Radius makes a huge difference in D2R just as it does in Legacy graphics, seems strange. Too bad it doesn’t change enemy detection radius like it does in Diablo 1, in D2 it’s only detrimental to you.
I really do hope they fix this, Light Radius is currently a near 100% useless stat in D2R.
For reference this is my brightness slider:

I like the darkness of Diablo 2, but that’s overkill

Haha yeah, contrary to my name I’m not particularly fond of darkness. Especially when ranged mobs like archers are hiding in the shadows.
I really like how the devs preserved the darkness in D2R, I just want light radius to be as effective as it is in original D2. It’s a very useful stat when it works.
First time I ever saw a suggestion about Light Radius.
+1 for not spewing the same old complaints.
