Three respec limit

Can we look into allowing more than three respecs? After playing D3 for so long it’s nice to experiment. But can’t do that at all with D2 Res. I accidently held shift and hit the wrong attribute on my third respec and it totally screwed me. No forgiveness. I know there is a way to respec after three but pretty hard to do, especially with a weak third and last respec.

They added a few things from D3, like auto-gold pick up, don’t see why they should keep the harsh respect rule.

Yes.

"If you’ve burned your Akara respecs and need another, you can earn more indefinitely by creating a Token of Absolution. However, it’s a grind, and you’ll need to do some farming on Hell difficulty to get the required materials. These are:

  • Twisted Essence of Suffering - obtained from Andariel or Duriel
  • Charged Essense of Hatre - obtained from Mephisto
  • Burning Essense of Terror - obtained from Diablo
  • Festering Essence of Destruction - obtained from Baal

These four reagents will only drop from these bosses on Hell difficulty. Once you have all four, transmute them in your Horadric Cube to create a Token of Absolution. Consume the Token to reset all stat and skill points. The drop rates for the four Essences are very low, so we strongly recommend you avoid the need for a Token by using your Akara respecs wisely."

Token of Absolution grants a respec. Each boss has a chance to drop a different essence.

Andy & Duriel drop the same one
Mephisto
Diablo
Baal

Kill them until you acquire one of each essence and combine all 4 in your cube to create the token. You can farm yourself or trade for it.

Strangely enough, I’ve never had a problem getting essences to drop from Andy, Duriel, Diablo, or Baal; I have multiples of those three essences stashed, if I ever need them.

But I have yet to ever get one from Mephy.

I re-rolled 3 pallies i screwed up on in their 40’s (I know not a big deal to the hard core), but his time around I got it right and have all my 3 respecs saved on my lvl 80 pally.

What I would like to see, is a system that allows you to place THEN CONFIRM your selection.
When you go to rehire a merc you get a confirmation window, and that decision is arguably less important than spending a skill point.

fun fact for you its actually easy to get the four essence you need to make a token. its not as rare as your making it sound.

this is D2 its not D3. in D3 your playing a class not a build where as in D2 your playing a build not a class. you also remove the challange of learning to deal with your chars weaknesses. where as in diablo 3 no char really had any weeknesses. plz lets not turn D2R into D3.

if you want this respec ability check out nexus mods. there a few SP mods that are working to bring a form of plugY to D2R. this will have you respec on the fly like D3 does. plz for the love of god wait for mods for changes like this. we dont need D2R to have all the changes that mods had from D2c.

i only ever need one, why do you needa keep resetting your build

Lol telling someone who messed up there stats to kill Hell Baal and Diablo several times is basically saying they should make a new Character.

At least we know why

And what taliesin1614 is saying is,

Allowing “easy” respec’s in D2 would allow people to respec for certain boss fights, and dungeon runs. Which in his opinion (and mine) would diminish the charm of this game.

I agree with this. I like how investing points matters in this game. D3 made it easier, but also boring. it takes away an avenue of gameplay so there’s less to invest your time in.

I just started my third barb to try a different build. it’s part of the content IMO, and they should not take it away.

did you read the OP. he said he does not see why they should keep the harsh respec rule. but i agree this would make the game easier for said bosses or runs removing the charm of this game.

Yes in fact I did. And I provided him with the solution he is asking for.

Then I clarified and agreed with one of the points YOU made.

When I say What “HE” is saying that “he” is YOU.

I have so many off meph that I do not even pick them up right now (like 10 on a mule) – Have not gotten any off Baal or Diablo yet though, but I have just barely added them to my normal farm route now that I am strong enough to reliably kill them without dying.

Some people are new to Diablo 2, I realize that may be a shock for you. Also, old players who have long since forgotten are coming back. Hell some people like to experiment and have fun because it is boring to read about a build online and play the game the way someone else did.

There are a thousand reasons why and you can’t seem to look past the way YOU play D2.

Everyone just wants their experience to be easy, git gud

I’m for a lot of changes but this is something I don’t really care about… I think they should be limited somehow, or require some work to re-spec, just like it is now with essences. The essences aren’t that rare, especially considering the bosses that drop them are bosses people already farm, so you can sorta get them passively. I have so many from Andy and Meph I have to trade them or junk them.
