Honestly it’s a sad joke at this point.
I try to log in, I’m at 490 in a queue and cannot play for an hour.
When I finally get through the queue (assuming I don’t DC and get sent back to the back of the line again) I am welcomed by the most dated and lazily programmed product known to man. The lack of polish and attention to detail is next level.
The game needs to be renamed “D2: Server Communication Error”
-
Type in text the game doesn’t like? – Server Communication Error
-
Try to join a game that doesn’t exist yet, or mistype? Server Communication Error
-
After some time it will remove the ability to join your friends games completely until you logout and back in – you can go back to the character screen and watch the join never occur or hit cancel, for it not to work until exiting and opening the game again.
Wow isn’t this SUPER!!! We haven’t even made it into a game yet!!
Then, God forbid we had a filter to filter the lobby games, you get a random assortment of disappearing games that by the time you can see the information about duration the game is gone off the list.
Hope you can speed read like a 90’s infomercial.
Want to find a Baal run that isn’t stale? GG.
When you do latch on to a game, watch out for the pitfall above mentioned earlier!
If you leave when cleared, and enter the game name too fast for the next run, before it exists, or sometimes even randomly you will get Server Communication Error and then no longer be able to join games again.
Still With me? Having fun yet?
Now lets actually talk about the gameplay itself.
-
The Mercenary get’s lost in space and never recovers if you pally charge for movement. The only way to recover him is to port back to town or run back to him and walk him back up, otherwise he just paths back and forth in a 5 foot swath off screen never to recover.
-
He randomly decides not to port with as a Sorc at times if your not far enough away, and he doesn’t port back to you when your Pally charging! It’s so great!
Then as you finally get your Merc and are about to kill something, game client crashes!
It can happen so many different ways its truly inspiring! All of them show the signs of a classic memory leak because it actually takes some time for it to happen.
-
Exit a game? Crash back to queue for you!!
-
Wanna do a cows run? Mid pull crash back to queue for you!!
-
Been playing finally for a little anywhere randomly? Crash back to queue for you!!
When you finally make it back to the lobby enjoy the scrolling characters at the bottom that do absolutely nothing as a token of our appreciation? Like WTF is this?
Definitely don’t expect your friends list to work either when you come back, because that will take a good ten minutes to show back up again. Good luck rejoining the game easily.
Then of course there is the real head scratchers:
- What happened to multiple accounts and unlimited storage like original D2? Can we get some more tabs? (Don’t worry you have time on this one I cannot play enough at the moment to accumulate anything of value)
Maybe it’s some strange kind of foresight that you knew it would be unplayable.
And the excuses are really quite amusing. What it boils down to is “business decisions” essentially instead of doing the right thing.
- We only have one global database – its 2021 modern servers can load balance and share loads and spin up and down in minutes
I get it, you didn’t want to do the needful.
Cause updating code, and actually modernizing something that your charging a full game price for would really ruin the cash grab.
Never will I buy another blizzard game again. You have been handed guaranteed wins by the original real Blizzard, and all you have to do is be a game manager, and not mess it up.
And you cannot even do that anymore.
Time to hire people that didn’t spend their time remastering Oregon Trail. But hey the graphics are great!
