This game has never been good

Some much nostalgia about how this was the greatest arpg of all time, and the more I think about it this game was never good, the only reason people ever thought that and still do is because at the time it came out there was nothing even comparable to it, nowadays there are so many other better games out there it makes this look like a turd wearing makeup.

In your opinion… because my opinion would be quite a bit different than that

I still love this game… if you don’t, perhaps move on…

Sorry, but I–and many others–think this game is amazing.

Your view is subjective and not the ā€œtruthā€ you are trying to purport it to be.

Well, than i guess every game of the era was garbage in your opinion?

I have to wonder why you are here at all then… But, that’s just me.

D1 was amazing, D2 was amazing, LOD was even more amazing, D2R props to the people who made the graphics its still amazing. Now if we get into the servers crashes and queue implementation yes there are ALOT better servers in other games or better attitude from the companies that made them towards making the game better for the players.

Only other ARPG out there that I think makes a significant run at D2 in overall quality is Grim Dawn. Others beat it in certain aspects but lose in others and the sum of the ā€˜utils of enjoyment’ is less for me.

Unlike you though I won’t denigrate GD, PoE, D3, or TL. They all have bright spots that some might enjoy more than. D2

Last Epoch is showing potential. I play that from time to time.

Bro I just found Tals Armor and Herald of Zakarum this game is amazing.

My only problem with Grim Dawn is the lack of multiplayer on a closed server. I realize it was intended to be a Single Player game and that is where the focus is, but ARPGs that do not offer a multiplayer experience on closed servers will always fall behind.

I do need to play Last Epoch. I just have such a backlog of games atm that I doubt I’ll get to it until late Spring

this game is actually so good its disturbing my day to day routine and my irl responssabilities. its that good. i cant stop playing. im dreaming about drops. no joke btw

I love the game, but the thing that ruins it is what ruins every dungeon crawler. Due to massively overpowered uniques/sets/runewords, there’s always a "Best Build"ā„¢ using the exact same items as everyone else.

The game was more unique when rares ruled the roost, as silly as that sounds.

Nah, the game itself is still great to this day. Sorry you don’t enjoy it anymore.

Every game has something I don’t like about it. This game has more good than bad. It has the same gameplay mechanics as LOD, it looks better, It runs better, I can play it with a controller, I can control my character more precisely, I’m finding more runes than ever before, plus things I can’t even think of right now. Its just a great game.

ā€œThis game has never been goodā€ posted while op was waiting in queue and handling his daily amount of … well, you know what I mean.

just do a quick google search of games that came out in 2000/2001.

gta 3 (no online mode)
halo 1 (omg 4 player split screen and multyplayer!!!)
halflife 2 (omg physics in games!!)

It was the best game of this genre at it’s time. (mostly because it was diablo that invented the action rpg, or made it popular ) You can watch that documentary where David Brevik, the designer of the gam, talks about the moment he killed a skeleton and realized that real-time action was the way to go… As diablo was originally intended to be a turn based strategy game similar to D&D or final fantasia ;p it’s on youtube free of charge to watch.

Nowadays players need more handholding and casual mechanics to maintain the dopamine levels in the brain the same.

But that’s why I play this in legacy mode single player 100% of the time. Nostalgia. If you expected a modern game…I don’t know what to say ^.^

Like how us older guys will buy an old sports car for the mid-life-crises. It was a cool car when it was manufactured even though modern cars are far superior in every measurable way. New graphics would be like adding power steering and breaks on the old car to make it safe for the road…

the question should be: who raised those expectations for ā€œnew playersā€ that diablo 2 was a dope trending online game?

That is just your opinion instead of being a fact. There wouldn’t have been so many games after it that tried to capture the magic that D2:LOD has if it wasn’t that great. Also games like PoE and Grim Dawn wouldn’t have quest that give a nod to either Diablo 1 or Diablo 2.

PoE in act two has the Vaal Quest that gives nod to the Tainted Sun quest.

Grim dawn as a quest that gives a nod to the fixing the water quest of Diablo 1.
