The wrong corpse got deleted

I saw that some peoples bodies are being deleted when they put extra gear on to go get the other corpses but I had over 400 MF gear on and lost it all. I don’t see how one random piece of gear that I picked up by accident could be worth more than all of my magic find gear.
I was hunting last night In the world stone hell mode. I died. I tried to go back to get my body naked, but I miss clicked and picked an item up a random item instead. so, I asked a friend to join a game to help me get my body back but he couldn’t join my game. I decided to restart the game to get my body back that way. When I came back into the game to get my body at one random piece of gear was all that was left. This can’t be right

Diablo is one of those games where you always have to go back for your body, it’s same as it ever was.

I’m not sure if blizzard can help restore your account or not, but it’s worth a shot. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

True to an Extent Harry… Diablo2 “Remembers” the corpse that is the most Expensive were you to sell the gear to say, Charsi.

So you can have Enigma and oculas shako etc on your main and die… Should you choose to equip gear on yourself in order to assist in your corpse run and then die and become frustrated and rage quit in order to reaquire your corpse… Then the corpse with your useful GG gear (but in the game vendors eyes) that is a less expensive corpse will be replaced with your nonGG “only bought this crap or equipped it out of my stash to get my main corpse” gear because if you were to sell all item to item to an ingame vendor and the “backup corpse run assist gear” equipment loadout happens to be more (game vendor) expensive that THAT corpse becomes your new default should you leave, crash out of the game session making your GG corpse go POOF Permanently.

My advice for anyone playing D2 is as follows:

Whenyou die and your wearing GG equipment, save and exit the game, and simply create a new session or run the risk of losing ALL of your equipped gear. That way you retain your GG corpse upon reloading the game. I myself would rather lose 10Kxp than risk losing far far more.

OP: what kind of gear did you have and if i can donate a little something to get you back on your feet i will see what i can do for ya. Sorry for your loss thats a harsh lesson to learn the hard way :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

As a rule of thumb never equip or pickup anything new while corpse hunting. I know you did it by accident so that sucks. It is a great explanation by above poster but I seen it many times not work out so I don’t trust it.

This system is broken. Obviously. By picking up one random piece of equipment, In the vendors eyes, this item is worth more than my oculus, my skullder’s ire, my goldwrap, my matriarch with spirit rune word, my skull collector, etc. etc. etc.?!?! I understand the explanation and how they come to the conclusion, but I don’t understand how that one random item is worth more to a vendor and all my other unique items.

I agree system is broken and that is why I never trust it. The other night on Mr Llamas stream it happened to a viewer and Llama was trying to explain its not suppose to work that way. He basically described what the above poster said about game is supposed to recognize the more expensive corpse and keep that one but it seems to be buggy at best.

I always go in naked first. If you can’t beat the boss naked then you shouldn’t be in there

Something else to remember, to avoid picking stuff up by accident. Do not have any skill, or even the base attack, assigned to your X button on the PS, or whatever button that is on XBox and Switch. That way you will only ever use that button to talk to an NPC or to open a chest or to intentionally pick up stuff.

Just exit game and when u join a new game ur corpse will be in town.
