The Laziest Build for Controller (Holy Fire)

Been experimenting; playing diablo2 with a controller and I gotta say… The Holy Fire paladin is the laziest class you can make lol

You just run around and smash everything with Holy Fire and pickup the loot. No repair costs or targeting foes.

Alls you need is a random Xbow to kill bosses, as the bonus fire damage is applied to your arrows as well… For Baal, you just stand off-screen and shoot. Baal can’t even see you lol.

Even more lazy then the Necromancer. Beauty lol
When stuff is running after you, they don’t attack.

Get out of normal and come back to us with an update on how that went. :joy::joy::joy:

im in hell, level 62.
just have to get a merc for the fire immunes.
In Normal I 1 hit everything before I can even see it on the screen lol

Since every class uses a merc for hell figured this would be a given

FYI: to hand potions to a merc with controller it’s L2 + D-pad hotkey

I’d stick with NM at least till 70  but as for running hell against fire immune with fire aure paladin … not pretty.
But  if you switch on Dream helm, dream shield and conviction than yeah … you won’t need anything else

You just made a new “Laziest build” lol  I actually run basic Tesladin (means no dream yet). But it’s fun seeing mobs die in N and NM. And non-light-immunes die in Hell.

There are a ton of fire immunes and many of the best farm spots have them in large packs. Can’t do chaos with that build unless you want it to take 40 minutes. Pit… maybe, but there are a lot of those fire immune devilkin to kill one by one. If you had said a shockadin, sure. That is pretty viable in multiple spots. Fire? Eldrich and shenk runs? Pindle if you have infinity. I’m pretty sure you can break his fire immunity with conviction.

and i thought in was lazy by running builds with two skills, left and right click and/or dont swap very often. but i see the bar has been raised.

oh for chaos, i just run those guys down to the entrance and head back up.
kind of cheese but you know.

I like how it’s a different style of play

defiantly not the fastest - but so lazy

Tesladin without dream is pretty doable. Can farm some good spots. Probably pretty great with an infinity merc and a crescent moon. Could even do council pretty well with that setup and no dream. Might be almost as fast as a physical zealot on council. May try it out later just for laughs.

I’d argue the laziest build for controller is the use of a controller to begin with. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well there is more that you can do  like having merc with Eth Raled Andy 10LL, Eth upped Rippers Toll with Shael some Eth Elite Armor 4x socketed with 15/40 jewels and you can use rest of classic Tesladin setup

one of the downsides of controller is the inventory management.

But since all you need to do is click your mouse or move the controller to switch - makes it easy to use mouse and controller …

Pro tip- re calibrate your controller before playing. if your “dead zone” is off, you’ll have issues flipping back and forth from controller to keyboard and mouse. as the game detects the slightest change in analog stick position and switches control.

the game needs a gamepad calibration for dead zone if they are going to use the auto-switch on detected input idea

It is a double edged sword on the inventory. I do like the auto sort for the stash. Everything else is pretty cumbersome.

the biggest problem i can see with the inventory system on controller is how you pickup items.

first, you know how when items drop and you use your eyeballs to scan the text for items you want and then use the mouse to selectively click on the item of interest? With a controller it doesn’t work like that… It will automatically show the items you’re near in a radius around you and hides the text of things that are too far away. (you can toggle show items to show everywhere too this is a different feature)

Then you have to move your character to highlight the item you want to pickup. Haven’t found a way to scroll through the list of items on the ground other then to move. Seems to select the item you are nearest to.

items that “don’t fit” into your inventory, you can’t grab and throw into your cube… thisbrings us to the next point…

You wouldn’t be able to max your inventory with charms and still pick things up. because you can’t store things in the cube…

maybe they’ll change the cube or the inventory to fix this eventually. so it’s easy to develop for console

I can’t wait to PTR test the action bar. I have a feeling that some already overpowered builds will become insane though. Hammerdin in particular. It is a little clumsy right now to be swapping between teleport and auras while having hammers bound to left click. Having TP on a key press and aura always active with right click hammers? Yes please!

I hear you. PTR will be definitely helpful. Interested in seeing the observations folks make.

But it’s definitely harder to use spells that require manual targeting with a controller. Like Teleport or Meteor. With a controller, you can’t target a specific area. has like a built in auto-aim.

I imagine there’s going to be two separate builds depending on what you use to control the characters actions. Instead of a balance between the two control schemes.

The action bar is just a way for somebody playing on keyboard and mouse to access and utilize the controllers input system. This currently exists in the game; used for the controller.

Why can’t you store things in the cube ? The only problem I have is picking up individual items which can be tedious at times. You can switch things from inventory to storage or vise versa by holding x so it goes pretty fast. If you need to redo your belt set the 1st row then drop the pots and pick them back up.

aye, I do the drop trick also to bypass having to place pots into the slots.

I’m talkin’ about how when i’m playing with keyboard and mouse; how you can have the inventory open and control your character at the same time. As in, your inventory expands on the side but you can still loot items.

when your inventory is full and you have the inventory window open; when you pickup an item with a mouse, the item will ‘stick’ to your mouse. allowing you to place it into your cube.

as far as i can see, you can’t have the inventory open at the same time as the cube with a controller. Unless there’s a way to loot items directly into the cube?
