The issue of server instability

The server is unstable and unable to create games. It will take 1-2 hours for the game to appear from August 30th until now. Blizzard will solve this problem. It is particularly serious at noon, afternoon, and evening, and has been going on for a week. This is the case for both Asian and American servers

The chances of it being a server issue are extremely slim. It’s more likely that it’s an internet connection issue due to a connection hop being overloaded between your computer and the servers. Due to Diablo 2’s garbage netcode, it has always been notoriously bad at working with anything but a perfect* internet connection between the server and the client. Diablo 2: Resurrected is unfortunately no different since the netcode is basically the same as the original game.

*By “perfect”, I mean low ping jitter and ZERO packet loss. Even just 1% packet loss will eventually result in synchronization issues and eventually being dropped from the game. “Your connection has been interrupted.” Higher packet loss percentages or even bursts of high packet loss make the problem that much worse and to the point where the game is unplayable.

If it were a server issue, the forum would be rolling with multiple reports about the same issue.

Try running tracert to both servers and see if there is a “hiccup” en route. If so, there is the problem.

exactly!
I think it might have to do with spamming games too quickly. Also, when I go to the character select screen after this message occurs the “play” button appears as “cancel join game”.

I posted this info a while back, you can give this a try to see if you’re having issues with your connection:

Certainly a plausible theory… I’ve experienced the issue recently as well, but only when running quick repetitive farming areas like Tristram or Pindle. If this seems to happen to you as well with quick successive games, try adding other areas in your runs. The OG server limits to 20 games created per hour, so avg 3 minutes a game.

I have an extremely stable connection, very rarely is there an issue on my end related to packet loss/ping jitter. I’ve experienced more game downtime issues from Blizzard being hammered by DDoS attacks than actual connection issues on my ISP’s end of the connection.

I play other online games such as Everquest and don’t have an issue, Blizzard has always sucked and they don’t seem to ever fix anything as they just are not bright.

Some games are better than others when it comes to handling ping jitter and packet loss.

I play Diablo 2 with very few connection problems, however I have a rock solid connection. As I mentioned above, the netcode for Diablo 2, both the original game and Resurrected is garbage, it has been garbage for the entirety of the games existence when it comes to handling significant ping jitter and/or any amount of packet loss.

Blizzard COULD do something to largely eliminate problems with low to moderate connection issues. It would involve adding redundancy by doubling or even tripling the data stream with a small amount of latency between the streams to keep them out of phase, along with adding a parity stream for hash checks and error correction… But I know that won’t ever happen because that would require them doing work.

Yea they’ve bad at least since yesterday on and off. Huge rubberbanding out of nowhere, ping never goes over 141 and usually shows 78, but yet 2-4 second “repeats” of movement. Hardwired 80/40 mbps, it aint me.

for me it seems to be only specific servers, at least in NA, every 5 or so baal games you will land on a bad server where u rubberband like crazy and i just remake.
