Title. I’ve basically rushed an embarassing numbero of full games in act 3, and if you have a low level character who needs this quest in the game/act, the golden bird will basically never drop in the game. Presumably because they need to be the one who kills the mob due to a bug in the quest or at least in the vicinity of a champion mob being killed by someone who also needs the quest. Its gotten so bad that if i want to leech this quest, i have to help people kill the mob(But not kill it myself, and let them spawn it), and then bring the low level in to the game to get the quest AFTER the golden bird has dropped. By rush, i literally mean i walk them through all the parts of all of the quests they want to do in act 3 and have them do all the legwork but babysit them and make sure they don’t die(its hardcore). It takes forever, and that is why i’m very confident there is absolutely something bugged with this quest. There is no way this quest item should never drop if a low level character is in the game but not doing any of the killing. My guess is for this to drop, this character also needs to be nearby when a champion pack is killed - too risky for a low level hardcore character.
This is easily the most bugged quest and i don’t know if its because of a change in D2R, or something else. There is no way i can basically rush multiple people through hell act 3, with them KILLING champion packs, and never see this drop. And no, they don’t have it in their inventory accidently from a previous difficulty.
Why should a quest item drop for somebody who does nothing for it?
If they want it so bad they can get it themselfs later. It usually is dropped by the first boss or champ encountered outside of tiown. Should be super easy for a rush char who got way past the level when the quest was available the first time.
massive noob comment. You understand this literally prevents it from dropping for ANYONE else in the game? You know, the people actually high enough level and doing the quest? Lol…
As for the other part of your misguided statement - people want to make low levels for pvp. They have done this for well over a decade, without this being a huge issue. Glitch rushes exist. People get credit for quests on a low level all the time that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to complete. This shouldn’t be an exception, especially when it interferes with people who are high enough level to get this drop normally.

Yes. That’s what i said. If ypu want that bird you have to make the kill yourself PLUS you must be able to complete the quest. If the char who created the game already got the bird it won’t drop for anyone else in the game.
The rest of your rant is irrelevant. D2R is not D2/LoD. Things that worked in D2/LoD might work in D2R too but there is no guarantee they will. For example the self-preseving gear stat glitch from D2/LoD is not longer in D2R. You now have to meet the min req’s for an item regardless how much str or dex it adds.
or just do what good rushers did back in the day. dont complete the bird quest on your rusher. pick up the item yourself. drop it in town. leave party until the quest has been complete by them

No, you “self appointed specialists” fail to understand the issue “Testacc” has.
Read it from my lips: In Lod, it will drop. In D2R, all things equal, it will sometimes not drop.
I believe this has to do with inventory status. This may happen with full inventory. Because, fun fact, I had the golden bird dropped in three consecutive games, after in the first game nothing did happen, it dropped in one game, and I picked it up and finished the quest, then it dropped in the next game, and in the game after.
as far as i know its unchanged. in the original game, the jade figurine will be assigned to the first unique monster to be loaded in act 3 as long as the game’s quest status (ie the game maker) doesn’t have the jade figurine or the quest completed for it.
many people complain about its designated drop mechanic because if the first monster spawned 2.5 screens in a direction you never went, no monster will be able to drop it for the rest of the game, and youll never naturally look for that monster.
additionally, im pretty sure the killer can’t have the quest done either for it to drop. could be wrong tho.
it MAY be the case that a person without the quest has to be the one to cause the monster to spawn, so if a quest completer spawns the monster and a non-quest completer kills the monster, it may still not spawn, im not 100% sure about this, never formally tested it. i dont recall quest statuses to be dependent upon the person, but old cow king portal was associated to a quest and even if the base game didn’t have the cow king quest completed, someone who did have the quest completed couldnt make the portal from what i remember.
everything he’s described in his original post is exactly how the original game worked. whether or not you find these mechanics to suck is a different argument, but i don’t see anything that is considered a bug or differs from the original game.
Once again, I play Diablo 2 since classic v 1.0. I leveled countless characters for myself. The golden bird in all these years always did drop. I Never had any problem with it whatsover.
Only now, in D2R, this became a problem for me. One time, and what was unusual for this character, he had full personal inventory while playing.
- With a Singer barbarian level 65, Hell
- Full character inventory
- Norm & NM Golden Birds finished
- Single Player
- The Bird did not drop in the first game.
- In the next game, it dropped. I finished quest, talked to alkor, drank the potion.
- The game after, the bird dropped again. Again I finished the quest, drank the potion.
- In the next game, the bird dropped once again, and I drank the potion a third time.
After that, the quest status was finished and no more birds dropped. So, the gist of all of this is, this quest indeed is somehow bugged in some weird edge cases.
idk what to tell you, i use to run leveling services on teh forbidden website. it was literally all i did as a kid. i know for a fact it will only drop from the first monster spawned, ive had to go out of my way to search for it and kill several unique/champion groups before it dropped.
you say it didnt drop, but the chances are it was given to a monster you didnt kill (spawn radius is pretty big). this is something that is 100% confirmed from the original game. whether or not d2r broke this remains to be seen. the issues described are how it worked in the original game.
however, what you’re saying is you can get the figurine to drop even after completing the quest, and claim multiple quest rewards? this character has drank the potion of life 5 times? that would be something else entirely and be a very interesting bug if re-createable
