I was in an online game and someone said you only get synergies from skill points you actually add to your skills and not skills added from items for synergies like DeathsWeb For example.I told him he was wrong or Ive played this game since the expansion thinking anything adding to a skill(items, GCs etc) point in that synergy would boost skill damage for any skills associated with that synergy. So I guess to make this sounds simpler hes saying if you had a necro without a wand and put on a wand that just added +1 to teeth its only going to boost teeth damage and nothing else that gets synergy damage from the teeth skill.
you only get synergy from hard skill points not gear +skills.

Synergies
Synergy bonuses are designed to boost the effectiveness of the higher-level skills based upon the number of points allocated to the lower-level (synergizing) skills. Players are rewarded for using skill points earlier rather than hoarding them all for later ‘cookie-cutter’ distribution to high-level skills. A skill that has a Synergy lists other skills that will help improve the skill you are looking at. This guide lists the bonuses as they are listed in the game so there won’t always be complete information about what each Synergy does.Items that give bonuses to skills and skill levels will not add to Synergy bonuses. For example, an Orb with +3 to Fire Ball, when equipped, does not give any bonus to Fire Bolt. To synergize Fire Bolt, you must place skill points into Fire Ball (or Meteor).
In v1.10 and later, synergy bonuses come only from actual skill points in a skill; +skill bonuses from equipment do not count towards the synergy bonuses.
ive played this game the entire time thinking that anything with a + skill added to synergies if its a skill in the synergies, and Ive played diablo2 for a long time lol…wow DERP
i don’t think it’s that uncommon for people to not know it’s only hard skill points that benefit, unless you read guides and stuff back in the day it’s hard to know because skill tooltips are not the most accurate or information rich.
interesting, i wonder what else i dont know about the game that I should know after playing for like 15 years…
