I have been playing on Switch only since launch, despite the known problems we all know (server issues, unbelievable queue to play online, terrible game matching, missing lobby, no chat, missing /playersX command on console, crashes, etc.), one thing that I find unfair is that when 8 players are together they have more XP, more drops, therefore, better progression on the game, right?
As a Switch only player, I still didn’t have ANY explanation on why it only supports 4 players, moreover, how can I have the advantages of non Switch players 8, if I can only play with 4 players (If I they ever manage to find each other with game matching).
I’m guessing it has to do with the limitations of the console. The switch has half the ram of an xbox 1s and a quarter of the recommended amount for the pc version of d2r
I can understand the reasons, but they could have explained the reason, right?
I just imagine on the preparation for Switch:
“Boss, we can’t make Switch support more than 4 players because of ~CLEAR UNDERSTANDABLE REASONS~, what should we do?”
Boss: -“They will never understand it, lets just tell them they can’t play with more than 4 and nobody will ever question this.”
Sure, and its too bad that they didn’t explain this I guess?
On the other hand think of Nintendo’s board room meeting. “Lets make a handheld with specs half as good as consoles released years before and sell it as a console because the Wii U was such a magnificent failure”
The way I see it its just the price you pay for the convenience of using a handheld system.
I don’t think Nintendo is the one to blame here, they do whatever they want with their handheld consoles. But if you ship a game to it, you have to make it right.
Also, even with the hardware limits of a switch, I am pretty sure their hardware is better than our PCs 20 years ago when we were playing on lan parties with other 8 players…
but again, without a clear explanation on why they did that, we can only create theories.
But my focus is:
I want to be able to progress as fast as people playing with 8 players. I only have a Switch, how can I do it?
They may have been able to make it run with 8 with some serious switch specific optimization, I really don’t know? I know that I get some serious chunks on my 1s sometimes though. I agree though they could offer some kind of explanation.
Anyway the short answer for now? You can’t. Not online. For single player, hopefully they add the /players feature. Many want it and its already in the game.
That is pretty clear, but assuming someone has a PC and a Switch, they can farm with 8 players, level up faster, get more items, better loot, all GG stuff
Then go and trade with Switch players who are pretty much thirsty for GG stuff, and get really better prices for their GG stuff.
When ladder comes around this will be a huge gap for everyone: People that only have Switch (me), people that don’t have Switch and people who can profit trade on Switch.
So the ladder will be a bit unfair for a lot of players, specially for the ones on Switch.
Also the game experience of Switch only players will be much harder to progress than non Switch players. In terms of hitting lvl 99 and finding GG gear due to players8 bonus drops
People are forgetting to explain you about a simple command available for pc users /players X, this command let’s you emulate a number of players even on offline games giving the same compensations (xp,loot, drops…) Now the restriction to 4 players on a party i can understand because graphically the Switch is lacking a lot of power.
What we really need is the options that command give and ever as give to Diablo 2 players witch i’m one of them… and isn’t acceptable not having it because of the differences you talked about.
I’m almost positive the switch gets 0 boost in performance if its plugged into the tv if thats what you meant. The problem is that Nintendo chose to make a handheld with around the same or worse specs than a computer from 2006 and market it as a console. That’s not even necessarily a bad thing! To play Diablo on a system you can fit in a small backpack is great. I think if NS could handle 8 players then it would have been included.
Anyway I don’t really have anything else to say about this
If you can play solo on Switch then that is what I would do when I want better loot. Multiplayer is great for xp and working together. You might get lucky and find a few upgrades. But you will be better off farming alone if you want the most efficient way to get the best loot in the game.
While not being able to pay with 8 players sounds like a major limitation, being half the theoretical players of other consoles, take comfort in knowing that the Multiplayer Match Making is absolute garbage and it’s nearly impossible to find even one other player to play with, let alone a full game of four, and there is no way to browse and select the matches you want like you could 20 years ago you just have to be matched with whoever it matches you with.
Oh but of course you can schedule your play sessions with people offface book or something so rejoice in being forced to social network and play around other people’s schedules to play multiplayer in a multiplayer game that used to have great drop in 20 years ago.
