Switch - Gradual Performance Drop + Workaround

When playing the game on the Switch for some extended time, the performance / constant fps gradually decreases and the game begins to stutter / micro lag.

Example: Played through act 3. Around Kurrast city the performance goes down the drain. Advanced to act 4, there the performance was still bad. Save+Exit to char selection and load again into the game: Performance is smooth and fixed.

I observed such behaviour also in various other places where it is usually fine when freshly loading into the game: Lut Gholeim, Monastery and others.

This indicates some issue with the game’s memory management or some men leak.

Devs, please have a look into this. Thanks.

It is definitely a memory leak. My wife and I were both playing in solo games shopping a necro wand from drognan, going in and out of town to refresh the wands. Super repeatable. Somewhere around 30x your hero starts sliding rather than walking (due to fps drops) and you definitely will have a game crash before you hit 100x.

The other one that is really bad that I forgot to mention is Shenk. By far the worst in my opinion. The whole game lags completely out. I know it was like this in OG d2, but at least in the original, assets would just not be displayed and you could save and exit normally. In D2R, the screen just lags out, assets remain visible, and even the menus are non-responsive. If you there are archers or quill rats nearby, you are most certainly dead before the game starts to recognize your button presses.

Does anyone know if this problem is getting fixed at all? Because even now the issue is still there. I been playing this game since it first came out first on PS4 Pro and then the Switch. This memory leak issue is with the game and therefore a issue on all platforms. I have experienced this every time I play. It generally happened after a hour and a half or so of gameplay or more and gets to the point where you have to legit quit to solve the issue temporary and then come back on to be able to play for another hour and a half or so before it happens again. This is a major major issue man, this memory leak problem is effing up the game and the longer you play the significantly worse it gets which is why you are eventually forced to leave and quit and come back. But it’s ridiculous this hasn’t been fixed yet after all this time with how serious a issue this is. We shouldn’t have to do this to constantly avoid this problem and it’s really messing up my gameplay experience with a childhood game. And the problem will happen anywhere in game as long as your playing for a certain period of time. This has to get patched and fixed asap man. Not only that but why do the textures look so horrible on the switch version compared to PS4? Like there’s legit no reason for that. I can’t imagine it’s gonna effect performance so drastically and I’ve played far more graphical games on the switch with it running just fine. Like cmon man.
