So with the larger, more powerful Switch 2 on the way, is there any chance of a switch 2 d2r version with 8 player games?
Doubtful, granted. But one can hope.

Development for D2:R has been mostly stagnant ever since D4 released. Making a separate version for Switch 2 would mean they would have to maintain another port of the game, so I highly doubt it.
D2:R was basically a way to attract the old grizzled retired from Diablo 2 players back into the game to boost the sales of Diablo 4. Now that Diablo 4 is out and ~99% of the people who will ever buy D2:R have already bought it (not counting botters rebuying the game after banwaves), they don’t care about D2:R anymore.
They still haven’t added an onscreen keyboard for chat, or chat wheel customization to the switch, it’s very doubtful that any meaningful changes will come for even PC, let alone console, which is further down on their priority list. Hate to say it
Downloaded and played Diablo 2 Resurrected on Switch 2 yesterday—it runs, but it really needs an upgrade patch for Switch 2 hardware. Please add 60 FPS and higher resolution support so we can enjoy D2R properly on the new console
To me the most important thing is removing the 4 player limit. I love having the switch version with cross save letting me play the same characters on the train when i travel into the city and such. At least the loading is faster on the switch 2 even without an update.
I’m really curious why Switch 2 doesn’t cross-play with the PC version. I linked my Battle.net account to my Switch account and can access all my characters from PC, but you still can’t play between Switch 2 and PC, lol xD
Why is that???
One reason is that the Switch version can only have 4 players in a game, where the PC version can have 8 players in a game… That’s a big compatibility issue right off the bat. Then there’s likely multiple hurdles of connecting multiple different gaming networks (Nintendo, Sony, Xbox) to another (Battle.net) in order to make crossplay work… Blizzard likely decided to not include crossplay between different platforms in order to keep D2:R cheaper to maintain when it went to maintenance mode.
I’m googline every week for a Switch 2 patch with 60 fps. Really want it to happen! I happily pay for such an update.
Yeah… 60fps Fhd path… That’s all switch 2 players wish
