Does nobody else have this problem or why do I not see it being adressed, discussed?
My game will stutter/rubberband/displace mobs whatever you wanna call it.
What happens is I will be kiting a group of mobs and have good distance, peppering them with spells. Then I see some of the mobs are not taking damage. The next second the game will stutter for like 0.1 seconds and the mobs will appear next to me and hit me several times in a row. Like they have been standing next to me all along and their hits just piled up and release all at once.
This happens when playing online, in both multiplayer and singleplayer equally. and it happens A LOT.
*Sometimes the stutter is more of a short burst of superspeed than a teleport but the effect is the same
I remember having this problem back in original diablo but only when playing with many players online.
am I alone in this? My computer and internet should be fine

This is normal. This is the same as classic D2. This is due to the game being part client side and part server side. Type /fps in the game see what your ping is.

Oh okay didnt know the /fps thing. 34 fps 78 ping. Is it bad? Because this is happening all the time, like every 3-5 minutes and killing me a lot. I’ve been playing offline for a few weeks to get away from it and came back to online today hoping it was a sorted problem.
So people just live with this problem? 9/10 of my deaths are from this I cant imagine people just accept it O.o
not often but mobs that use frenzy and ultra fast mobs sometimes yes.
they end up swinging without animation from far away and hitting lol
not really a problem if you got good kill-speed but still - not great.

Rubber banding has been “part of the game” since the get go.
You get used to it:)

Haha holy shietballs, alright thanks for the answers guys xD
as Teksuo stated this isn’t really that often for me either, really fast moving mobs are most often affected. But yes you learn to start casting spells/attacks closer to your character than what you see because most likely something has desync’d and is now coming towards you!
78 ping is not desirable but it ain’t terrible. Mine is typically below 50, usually around 39 and I’m running 2 instances. If you are playing on wifi try to use an ethernet connection.
Man, for awhile there, back before they added lock step, and reworked a bit, POE was pretty much Path of Desync too. It got better, i don’t know by how much these days.
34 fps? Ouch. That is pretty bad. Try turning down your graphics settings. Turn off shadows completely. I assume you’re using an older video card, maybe a 10 series nvidia?
I’ve played poe quite early on, admittedly more on and off and never as serious as d2 or d3, but i’ve never ever found the game to play smoothly… it feels so clunky compared to both d2 and d3! last i played was a year ago so maybe things have changed since then…
34 fps is not great but i don’t think it will help his desync situation. my 12 year old gaming pc that i use for my 2nd account runs the game at 35-40 fps and i dont notice any more or less monsters getting desync compared to my main pc which is running at 60 fps
Oh, don’t get wrong. Smooth gameplay, and desync, are not all in one. I would agree its not very smooth, but that’s a different thing entirely.

this is because they continue to use the old server setup, if u play singleplayer you wont have this issue .
Yeah that was with everything on the lowest huehue forcing a smile with some tears escaping my eyes
Im running a GTX 760, i7 3820 CPU and 20 GB ram so nothing great just thought it’d be enough. Playing offline is running perfectly.
Im gonna stick to offline mode then I just wanna relax and grind some items without dying all the time ^^
How does ladder work, do you know? Is it the same client server shiet or does it run like offline play?

well as i mentioned fps isn’t your problem. yes could be better but i wouldn’t worry about it. at 78 ping i would still play online > offline. are you playing on wifi?
The ladder is only for online play, it is to show who gets to level 99 first. If you manage to get there (think top 1000 was how it was in classic), your name is etched forever on the board.
Yeah I live on the country so there’s no cable here, but wifi is quite strong. Im from the nordics so internet is pretty stable. Im using a wifi puck connected to the wall outlet then running a cable from another outlet to my computer, it stablize it well most of the time. Im playing FPS games without a problem.
@SwiftKitten - Im having this problem equally while playing online SP or MP. Only when playing offline this problem disappears.
many fps games i think work a little bit different with networking, rubberbanding is not as common, when you lag in a fps normally the whole game pauses and you can’t move your character, but d2 continues to allow some client side action that won’t be recognized by server. you can also do a packet speed/loss test and analyze that. but yea your internet solution sounds a little lame, having physical connection is the best way for these sorta games
playing alone or with people online makes no difference. but yes offline there is no server side, your client handles everything.

Oh okay, thanks Guitars and everyone else for the answers. Now I understand how it works! Makes it less frustrating knowing this is a part of the game for everyone. Too bad I put so much time in to online mode xD
