I play offline mode mostly and was wondering what the options are for infinite storage in D2R, since PlugY is no longer available. I have heard about goMule and such but I am not sure how well it works, or if an update to the game will make it so that I lose all my items I store with it. If anyone has some experiences to share with goMule, or other options, I am very interested to hear :).

GoMule works pretty well, you can easily organize stuff into ATMA stashes which has unlimited storage. I like to organize my stuff into separate stashes like such: “SC_Gems”, “SC_Runes”, “SC_Charms”, etc. SC stands for softcore, HC would be for hardcore if I ever decided to play it.
The stashes have search and filter functions that make it easy to find an item by name or items with specific criteria (e.g. a ring with mana, FCR, and all resists).
There are some caveats though. D2R must be fully closed before you use GoMule because of the way D2R holds character and stash data in memory, otherwise it would create dupes (GoMule will give you a warning if it detects any D2R instances that are open).
You won’t lose the items, but they can become “stuck” in GoMule if D2R has any updates that change the item format (this happened in patches 2.4 and 2.5).
If you have the items stored in ATMA stashes (character stashes shouldn’t be affected) then you will have to follow a fairly cumbersome process of manually “converting” the older format items to the new format so that GoMule can read and store them again. You’ll also need an updated version of GoMule provided by silospen.
Having said that I think this will become less of an issue because the chances of future updates changing the item format are becoming slimmer and slimmer as time goes on, patch 2.6 didn’t break it for example so didn’t require “converting” stuff.
This whole “converting” thing probably sounds complicated but it’s not, it’s just a PITA more than anything. 
GoMule is worth it even with the occasional hassle of D2R updates breaking it in my opinion.

You can get up to 7 shared stashes, and increase their size to 16x13, but that’s all what mods can offer for D2R. The name of the mod on Nexusmods is “Expanded Stash”.
