Needs to be a big a** popup that has to be dismissed, and a running tracker somewhere on the screen. POE does this already. It’s not a difficult problem to fix.
OTOH, if they developed code that would scrub the databases at server shut-down (or even better at start up), we’d never ever see a problem like this. It feels like they just assumed that things would always follow a single test case and never prepared alternative traps.
For reasons known to everyone and their dog blizzard is obviously understaffed at the moment and the monkeys that are working on fixing the game have no clue what to do, so I would like to suggest a simple fix to all their problems - if the server thinks I am still in a game the database obviously stores data about my character and whether I am playing or not. So how about when I try to make a new game from the lobby, all those data is flushed, or in other words - force the server to simply disconnect my character from any game it thinks I am in?
I can’t imagine a scenario in which I am playing the game and at the same time making a new one. Honestly, they should have made the error message say “error 37” and simply live up to their reputation.
I know atm 9 people including myself that have been stuck for soon 6 hours and nobody has been unlocked so far, this indicates to me there is no queue just a problem they cant solve. Maybe they should restart the servers so people that have been stuck for 6 hours can play and the ones that been playing for past 6 hours can get stuck in return.

agreed the message definitely needs to be made more visible lol
Lol your issue of not being able to play for 24hrs should be resolved in a few hours.
See the problem?
im surprised they dont automate the process. a stuck character must not be sending a lot of packets lol - should be able to detect stuck players and flush them automatically i would think.
I’ve looked everywhere for any source saying people are actively being unlocked. No-one who has been locked in the past 20+ hours has had their character unlocked. I wish they’d release some sort of updates at least hourly for these people who literally haven’t gotten to play since launch.

Hey, streamers are playing. If they can play, everyone else can wait.
So, since my characters didn’t even exist during the restart and yet I still have the same issue means that this issue is going to keep continuing because they believe that was only the thing that caused it. Gotcha.
I have been locked out for 24 hours now. No end in sight.
its been a little over 19 hours now for me, so it sure has heck doesnt seem like its being actively unlocked lol.

A few hours. Hey blizzard you wanna elaborate on that? Am I going to play today, tomorrow, or Sunday?
I haven’t been able to play for nearly 18 hours now. So much fun waiting.

they are intentionally keeping us in the dark because it’s obviously worse than their “few hour” vague estimate.
It has been over 3 hours since they said it was going to take 3 hours to unlock our characters.
My character is still locked.

Yea, we are rolling closer to 5 hours now my guy
If this problem has really been around since beta I have a hard time believing that they just stumbled upon identifying the issue today.

Well i think this is a good response tbh. But i don’t understand why Blizzard relies more on twitter than on their own website to communicate these things. Database issues? Ok communicate that to your player base please.

Well, there goes my lvl 49 chart. So much for getting a good head start. Just reading the other posts and how long people have waited (some 10+ hours is absolutely ridiculous)
What is the purpose of beta testing again? And yes, I also get the added logistics of server loads and now the newly crowned “database” issue which is what seems to be causing these charts to get stuck. But there should be ways for a company like Blizzard to be able to test this considering the amount of years they’ve been doing this and the amount of times their launches have gone to the dump.
Seriously, perhaps some new foundation should be made for betas. Extended them or even opening them to everyone earlier. Also would have been helpful to release a “WE ARE WORKING ON THE PROBLEM” on the Blizz app so I don’t have to spend even more time having to search this out.
