Stealth runeword didn't work, but had the correct base

So I used a white gothic plate with 2 sockets.
Put in a Tal and Eth in that order.
But the result ended up being a blue “Mechanic’s Gothic Plate”.

The base can’t be white, it have to be grey.

I wish players would quit buying socketed Mechanic’s items from Vendors and then post bug reports here because their Rune Words don’t work.

Mechanic’s is a prefix on Magic items. And Magic items cannot be Rune Words.

Also note: Magic items on the ground have blue labels whether they have Sockets or not.

Only Normal items can be used for Rune Words.

  • Normal items have white names and labels if they DO NOT have Sockets.
  • Normal items have gray names and labels if they DO have Sockets.

Very true and well said, I remember when an old D2 patch actually added more gray items to the vendor shops. I.E. armor and helm and more weapons. I am not sure if gamers are asking our wonderful hard working patch makers to get this into D2R?

I’m not one to study game mechanics…   ever. So, this may not be exactly accurate. But, it’s about Item Level (ilvl). And, after Act II on Normal Difficulty, Vendors don’t sell socketed Normal items.

I believe the cutoff point is ilvl 29.

Starting with Act III on Normal Difficulty, Vendor items are higher than Level 29. Even more so on Nightmare and Hell Difficulties.
