Spamming in lobby

Since the block function isnt working and all you get in the lobby is people spamming websites. Is it possible to get the ones constantly spamming webites banned? Makes the chat in lobby useless, if you are able to login at least.

I dont say its the case, just wanna throw in the idea:
how about Blizzard is working together with p2w sites to make more profit ?
and for that they wont ban these spamming bots which apparantly would be ridiculously easy to detect.
And thats also why Blizzard “can’t” (=dont want to) fix the blocking feature and pretends it to be an unfixable issue

just in case you didnt know you can /ignore username
or if that gives you trouble you can /whois username, then /ignore bnet tag

I do not think bot spam is going away any time soon, sadly. And our only option as players is to report them so the support team has a snapshot of the chatlog, ignore and move on

When I am diligent in my ignores the lobby usually gets quiet again. Sucks to have to go through it, but it is what it is :frowning:

That explains why the root sucks XD

I think Blizz is missing a business opportunity. Have a flunky sit in the lobby with a “perma-ban” tool for everyone that lists a pay-to-win ad. He/she/it sees the add, then immediately bans the account and their posting.

This cleans up the lobby instantly, and forces P2W sites to constantly buy new copies of the game. If the banner stops one account every minute, they’re earning Blizz $2,400/hour (or $57,600 per day).

I know it’s a gross oversimplification, but it points to the lack of “care and feeding” for D2R. I mean, why even have the lobby available at all, if it’s constantly hijacked by accounts breaking ToS, preventing legitimate players from using its features?

The lobby, as it stands now, is worse than worthless. It provides bad actors a stage, while doing absolutely nothing else for normal players.

EDIT: to fix my terrible math…

Tinfoil hat time. My wow account was hacked in like 2008 and I didnt have an authenticator. I chalked it up to malware embedded in an ad or something. I got the authenticator and changed my password.

I have never had a failed login since getting my authenticator. Interesting, if my account was compromised, wouldn’t the hackers be trying the account to see if it works? How did they know they can no longer log into it? Inside job?

It’s well documented that blizzard employees are underpaid. And there’s a lot of money to be made in RMT for their games. The incentive is certainly there.

The promise of a Blizzard authenticator included that we might not experience the same ol’ same ol’ of their legacy games and servers. It took roughly two weeks for ad bots as well as what looks to be a stable map reveal app. Add to that the constant server issues, item loss, and experience loss. Might as well merge D2:R with the legacy games.

if u look for their name on the bottom in the lobby and right click their chara u can block them that way it works but it seems pointless since a new bot pops up everytime i leave a game

Only way I’ve found usefull to block these spammers is use the “/ignore < charname>” to block them.
Sadly they get replaced in a short time by another.

Anyway hope this helps you - helps my frustration a bit when trying to read/communicate in the lobby.

That didn’t work for me for the bot accounts. The only way I’ve found that actually works is you have to whisper them to get put into a whisper channel with the bot, then block it/ignore it. It’s horrible. Also, you can’t report for botting in the lobby so you have to go in game and whisper them to report them as bots. It’s so stupid.

Which is an extremely janky system that doesn’t work half the time as two characters can have the same name now.

Also, since the right click block/whisper/add friend/etc doesn’t work currently (it just leaves a blank space where the name should be) that also means that most likely our reports are not being done correctly either. When we send them in, they probably are also missing the username box so the moderators who see the reports are probably confused as all hell seeing all these reports going in with no name attached.

Ive noticed sometimes I get a system mssg that the btag or usename cannot be found.
Its strange because I will often try one or two more times to ignore by hitting shift up, and it usually works after another try.
But sometimes it doesnt.

Thank you I will try your method next time

I’m curious. What is there to chat about in the lobby? I’d just pick a game and try to join it.

That’s the funny bit, if they literally paid one guy with eyes to watch the 20 guys in the lobby they could ban the spamming immediately but Bobby K needs his millions.

Set up trades, baal runs, talk… none of that really possible with this Janky lobby.

Talk to other players. As the channel creation system is also broken the Lobby is the only effective place to really communicate with other players aside from in a game.

Use /who or /whois command in lobby to find out BlizID of spammer, then use /ignore with the ID you got and it will ignore the user.

If item sites never took off in d2 then ggg would not have the funding to develop the game engine for poe.

I know not everyone care about that but it’s something to consider.

Even something labeled as bad can be good

/ignore and /mute don’t work for the bots, also a lookup of the domain names of the sites show that they are main land Chinese sites, you know the country that says online gaming is bad.
