I’ve just had this happen on my switch. One of my SP offline characters ‘failed to join’. Any solutions?
Thanks. This worked. I would still ask for a refund, though. I lost my character too and it kind of makes me not trust the game anymore and I don’t want to waste my time on this imperfect flawed game.

I had this happen and was able to get my character back but not my shared stash. I deleted my sharedstash file and my characters loaded again but not the one I had been playing at the time of the crash. Here is the fix I found: This only worked because I was using GoMule. GoMule makes automatic saves. If you go to your saved game folder where your characters are located there will be a folder called “GoMule.backup” in there you can find your character name with a bunch of text and a d2s(dot)org ending tag (The forum thinks I am trying to post a link hence the (dot). If you copy that file and change the name of that file to match your characters save file name and replace the existing (corrupted) one in your saved game folder your character should be able to load back up. At least it worked for me. If you don’t have some backup save file such as from GoMule I am not sure how to get it to work. I will be backing up regularly now!!

this works yes. sadly the when my comp crashed it erased the one character i had all the Magic Find gear on and that character got deleted somehow which i believe is the reason all the shared stuff caused the loading into game issues. yes all the items/gold in the shared tabs got deleted too. anyway i am solo self found so very disappointed with losing some key MF items, but at the very least i still have the 20 plus characters with muled items on them and a few characters i can farm ok with. bummer but oh well.

is there a way to make the corrupted file usable again ? the corrupted one i had a bunch of stuff on there i want im doing a grail and would be really helpful

Diablo II Resurrected frozen while playing and Windows Taskbar couldn’t shutdown game nor windows. I had to hot reboot PC.
But my last game character didn’t show up in the D2 game menu. I was also unable to load my other characters. I was getting “Failed to join game”. (All my characters are offline characters). I am playing game with 4K resolution with High graphic settings but not Ultra thinking I may avoid game crashes but game still kept crashing.
All my shared stashes are empty if I delete sharedstash file and all my golds, items and runes are gone so this is not a solution.
I was already frustrated with constant game crashes but losing a character progress is realy annoying.
Did anyone found a better solution to bring back a lost character? (my char files still in the saved game directory)

I’m going to try this out tonight.
I lost a level 86 hardcore lightning assassin.
It was my third attempt at clearing hardcore for the first time, and I was just about to kill hell ancients. Then I logged in next day to find my lvl 86 completely “poofed” and I was unable to log into any of my hardcore mules. Even tried to create new characters in offline hardcore and they failed to join as well. Online hardcore and soft core worked perfectly fine. Very unfortunate to hear people saying that they couldn’t recover their lost characters. I had some really nice gear. Found a rare amulet with almost 40% all res and +8 strength with some other modifiers that I can’t remember. Ughhh I also had some nice IAS gloves and some all res charms. Such a nice run. Characters name was “DontDieThreeX” technically she didn’t die. Life is so cruel sometimes

Same issue just happened to me after a crash while playing offline. The character I was playing doesn’t show up in the character list anymore, even though their file is in the save folder. I can’t load into any mules unless I delete the shared stash file. If I delete the shared stash file, I can load into other characters again, but the char I was playing during the crash and my shared stash are all gone. Anyone have a way to repair either the corrupted shared stash file or the character that was being played during the crash?
