Hey there, as someone who was probably the first person to bring the /players 8 topic up in the old forums before the game even launched I think I owe to at least give my 2 cents about the matter seeing we know a bit more now after the game has launched even though I am not really for or against that change
I am pretty familiar with the game and you can even say I’m pretty good at it, I have finished my goal of making my main character for launch (hybrid kick sin) fully GG geared after a week and half from launch, was the first character I made and it also wasn’t the only character I made, I had plenty of other capable choices by the time I finished her
Thing is, I prefer to farm alone, which makes sense, most people play that way unless they are playing together with a predetermined party or some nice people take came in contact with along the way
Problem is, when I did look for people if it was for exp or any type of interaction, most likely I had to babysit everyone in that particular game, there was a surge of players that might not know how to play the game as the older crowed do and some of them are part of the old crowd, they are just people that usually relayed on bots to play the game when they were younger
it is fair to say I did not enjoy that experience, don’t get me wrong I don’t mind helping new player or people that are struggling, but each and every game was the same, if I made a baal run the game filled with almost only sorceresses and all of them just stayed in town, didn’t even try to help even when you called for them, most likely leaving the game if they had to do any manual work, which made the journey to reach baal much more difficult then it should be, If I wanted to walk alone and do everything on my own I could just make my own game, the time investment wasn’t worth the extra exp you get from the party
there is also the other side of the spectrum where people are just filling games to try to get extra loot from the better drop chances in populated games, but I wont stray to far from my topic
you could absolutely farm alone and find amazing gear and runes as long as you can trade and there is a community, but that’s the only interactions I had for the most part, Trading, I usually go out of my way to help people or get into baal runs even when I don’t need to, I usually get to meet nice people that I want to party with but that never happened because most people were basically trying to leach off of other players and it wasn’t enjoyable
I did find a person which I traded key sets with and he allowed me to help him kill ubers and it was really fun because my assassin could just solo all content in the game, but it didn’t come from public games, it came from playing alone the entire time and finding someone to trade with
so for conclusion, you don’t need /players 8 in battle net, but people who usually used tcp/ip(I’m not one of them) probably feel robbed of that feature, because they could probably just do what ever they wanted and still meet with their friends afterwards not stuck only as a single player character, but I don’t think it would actually hurt anything if it is introduced, people who know what they are doing are probably already playing alone and it won’t change much beside allowing people to find better drops, which is not a big down side considering the fact that a lot of people who don’t know every little detail about the game (like the sorceress filled baal runs where people are staying in town) always relayed on bots or RMT sites to be able to play the game, now that there are no real threat from bots, I don’t think it will have any negative impact on the economy, we played the game even when bots were around and we did fine
So for or against there is no real issue, you can play the game if you learn how to play a little bit better and introducing /players 8 wont damage the community or economy aspect by any way
