Hello, Im new to Diablo and I have question regarding socketing.
I just got Archon Plate req lvl : 63
(white quality)
I dropped it on hell and I want to make 3 sockets into it for enigma but here is the problem. If I give it to larzuk he will give me max sockets (4) in this case for this armor right ?
So the question is How do I get 3 sockets in this armor, I have to find one with 3 sockets already or I can create them somehow ?
Cube the armor with Tal+Thul+Ptopaz. the number of sockets is random though.

1 Tal Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Ruby + Normal Shield = Socketed Shield of same type
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-4 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there’s a 3/4 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/4 chance of getting 1 socket.
In this case since Archon Plate can get up to 4, you have 1/4 chance to get the 3 OS you want.
Exactly, you are right. There is no way to print the precize desired number of sockets into an item except it’s the maximum number (Larzuk-Quest).
Alternatively, you could consider using a Mage Plate - Guaranteed 3 OS from Larzuk and far less str needed, trade-off being 150-200 less defense (Enigma runeword gives flat +def, not %).
Any white superior Mage Plate will be at least at max possible base defense.
Out of curiosity, just how much does a couple hundred defense truly affect the gameplay in hell difficulty? I’ve been playing summoner necro for the most part, and I could make enigma in a breast plate for all I care. But considering melee characters?
Personally, I don’t think it matters as much as the extra points in vitality. I would use elite bases if the build already has 100+ str without Enigma. Some folks use the Dusk Shroud with it’s 77 str, but it looks meh.
