So, no news about D2R on Blizzcon

Shame really.

D2 needs more content, more acts, more items. More skills per class, more monsters and mechanics. So much can be done here.

And you’re surprised?

D2:R is a remaster of a 23 year old game that has been done for a good while now. They aren’t going to just start adding a bunch of content, otherwise D2:R would cease to be a remaster of the original game, and instead become an entirely different game.

BlizzCon is a hypefest event for current/future games that are going to make them a lot of money.

If you’re looking for new game content, D2:R is the wrong place to be looking for it.

the only time they’ve had diablo 2 news was when they announced the remaster. there will never be anything ever again.

hell they don’t even showcase sc2 anymore and it’s still played professionally. the “world cup” for sc2 used to be held at blizzcon but blizzard gave up all their funding for the event. blizzard doesn’t care about their own IPs.

now it’s all funded by viewers and… let’s just say there’s some crazy starcraft fans out there because there’s still some decent tournies with decent money going on.

they are all in on d4, the current cash cow
all those cosmetics they are peddling

you just can’t monetize d2r like that

i get that they don’t want to pour resources into this game. it’s cool.
but at least a bit of mod support. the community will take care of keeping this game alive, and they will probably bring new players and new money to blizz

They’ve been slowly adding mod improvements and capabilities to the game with about every patch they release for D2:R…. Although the process is slow, especially when they don’t release a patch like they didn’t for season 5…

They strictly forbid injection/modification mods, which is what the majority of the “good” mods are for the original game.

So yeah, it will likely take a while for the mod support to come around where possibilities for D2:R can be anywhere close to the original game. Then again, it also might never happen…. Rob Gallerani doesn’t work for Blizzard any longer, and he was pretty much the main dev for D2:R…

Not to mention the fact that they screwed up so badly with d4 that they fell so hard on their faces with it their noses were coming out the back of their skulls … now they are try to save face and rape you at the same time. … I have been done with franchise advancement with diablo for a while now … I don’t like getting fleeced. So, I am trying other new games from other companies that actually care about the players … I still play my D2 though …

From D3 to DImmoral, to D4 and onwards, all downhill, steeper and steeper … well, it’s just trash, lazy developement, and an attempt to fleece as many as possible as fast as possible … they went from being revered to being totally repulsive. they lost all sight of what made them great at one time … now they are trying to hype it back into existence … they are just done. Thanks to kot and his endeavor to line his pockets and give false impressions of in-game numbers to make even more money … so glad his reign is finally over … time to take out the trash boys. Need to get rid of the management that still thinks that the D4 model is gonna work, they are so sidetracked and brainwashed that it’s pathetic. You can change ownership and names, but, the damage is done, they can either repair it or continue to lose face in the industry. Simple as that. Their greed has been the number one factor that has been destroying the franchise.

i don’t mind them wanting to make money. the cosmetic microtransactions are a great way to do it
i wouldn’t even mind the battle pass

but they stopped putting gameplay first. the problem I have is that the games themselves, d3 d4 immortal, are trash. pure trash from a player’s perspective.
d4 could have been a successor to d2, a true successor. but it follows the d3 model, it’s basically just a reskinned d3. of course it failed as a game, how could it not? maybe it was a commercial success, built on hype and streamer simping, but we saw how good it actually was after the dust settled. pure garbage

To show how bad it really is and how fed up people are with it … they put it on sale for 25% off, lol … and sales sucked …

After that failed to work … I noticed today it is now 44% off, ROFLMAOWTIME!!!

They don’t even get the hint!

i knew from the time i got the beta man
the gist of the feedback i left was that the game needed 2 years more of development time
it released a few months later
i dunno, even the itemization, the item properties, they’re just ridiculous
i dunno if i can say 1 good thing about d4 aside from the graphics

I’ve said this so many times, but my issue isn’t whether they are improving/adding to the game from this point forward. It’s that the company’s MO is secrecy and silence. They could spend 5 minutes to share the future of the game with everybody and it would put all of this to rest.

However, when they announce there will be more info shared about season 5 next week and it turns out the update is absolutely nothing it appears that they’re just doubling down on poor communication. Who leads people on only to copy and paste the last post (from months ago) on this dead forum, change dates, and delete the bottom 90% of the post? Craziness.

If you want to know the future of D2:R, look at the original games update history for clues.

The last “gameplay” update was 1.13c, back in 2010. The subsequent updates were bugfixes and to keep the game compatible with modern operating systems.

The simple truth is that Diablo 2 is “too good of a game”, and Blizzard corporate doesn’t like it. It cuts into their sales of their other newer games, and they (the suits) probably want Diablo 2 to simply die. But the diehard players of the game simply won’t let it happen.

Moreover, the penultimate content patch, 1.11, was released 5 (!) years earlier (2005), and followed 1.10 released in 2003.

Absolutely!

IMHO, it has been my favorite go-to game for a very long time. I have had a hard time switching to newer games because it is so good.

They said d2r was a live service game, so i guess its now an undead service game, not quite alive, not quite dead.

The big reasons why it’s still such a popular game are:

1: Low drop rates.

2: The ability to run bots to easy peddle items for $ to out-of-time/impatient (and willing to break rules) humanoids.

(I know, the truth sucks.)

I’d add:

3: The low drop rates+RNG makes it a different experience every time I play. Makes the game highly replayable.

I think the interesting itemisation is what makes your 3rd point possible.

D2 has a whole host of powerful uniques that change the way you play the game. Picking one or more up really changes the experiences completely. E.g. melee getting a hawkmail early or a caster getting a 10fcr/80 mana ring.

Just dont get that with immortal or d4. Nothing makes the player choose. Just random button mashing.

From the developer’s perspective it is a great way, from the players’ perspective it’s a disaster.

A company that makes the bulk of its money on cosmetics has no interest in the development of quality gameplay content. Producing cosmetics is easier, costs less and much less risky than producing new gameplay content hoping that players will like it. This is why “new content” in “modern” games and battle passes is usually cosmetics-only or 95% cosmetics 5% low-effort low-quality gameplay content.

No, I am not surprised at the very least. Sad, very sad. My expectations for this company have sunken to an all new low.

They are so greedy and so short-sighted. And now you have their new owners that wants to try and shove consoles down everyone’s throats.

They need to take a good and hard look at what they have and what works and what doesn’t.

For instance, they have a game/model that has surpassed time itself. It has a strong following even after 23 yrs. Dedicated players. This is almost unheard of in the industry.

They need to consider that, listen to that constituency, and move forward. Using that kind of base and moving forward slowly will increase the very long term. We already see what happens short term … just look at the d4 fiasco.

Is there no one up there with a college degree in marketing and has good common sense???
