I’ve heard in multiple places that Sorceress’s that run with Tal Rasha’s are noobs and are just “following streamers”.
I’m in that group, I’ll admit, I guess. I first saw that set I think from dbrunski.
So I switched to it after a total failed attempt at Meterob (or should I say, I wasn’t content with my damage output with Meteorb). Anyway, I’m using the following, with a Blizzard/Firewall build:
Full Tal Rasha’s Set
Spirit Monarch
Nature’s Peace Ring (For Mr. Corpse Explosion Dude)
10 FCR Ring
Magefist
War Traveler
I can clear all the important stuff in Hell without difficulty - all of the “Essence” bosses and all of the “Key” bosses. My firewall does 8600k damage, and that’s without any skillers or a torch (also, I’m level 88). I’m at the first breakpoint for FCR for teleport (min is 105, im at 115).
With that said…, what should I be aiming for exactly?
You can always optimize with magic find. I.e. Topaz Shako to replace the set helmet. High Nagelring for nature’s peace (and only switch for Nihlathak), Chance Guards for Magefist but then you’ll need a different weapon like occy (which also brings MF) or heart of the oak. MF ring for your FC ring (as you have 10 FCR too much).
Play around with this char planer, it’s awesome for testing different setups without owning them.

I have Chance Guards, Occy, Shako. Don’t have a Naglering…but have a Nature’s Peace ring…so same thing, I think. I’m running 270 MF as is without any changes to gear, full 75 resists (ok, fire is 73 and poison is 74…close enouuuugh). And I ca hold 4 more GCs, and a STorch, and 4 SCs after that.
Then you should be able to squeeze out around 100-150 more MF if you’re willing to sacrifice the 5 piece set bonus. If you own these parts already just test it
Missing resists can be covered by a SC or two, but for MF cap resists are not mandatory anyway, especially poison.
The Nagel is just for MF, so I don’t understand the “same thing” comment. Maybe I miss something here.
You said…
But now as I look it up…Naglering has nothing to do with the “Nature’s Peace” ring that I thought you were alluding to.
If you happen to find a tals armor and ammy in the first few days of ladder either by it dropping for you or trading for it really cheap then its not bad to have until you get better gear. The reason people get called noobs is because they trade so much good stuff to get the runes to buy it from someone when its crazy overpriced. The point of magic find is to get gear for your other toons. If you are trading all the stuff you are finding just to get tals set then whats the point, if you understand what I mean. As stated above there is much better gear for kill speed and mf.
Actually, I’m a moron, and misunderstood what you were meaning. I get it now…haha, thanks for the tips.
It is very hard to beat 3 piece Tal for MF. It lacks + skills compared to other setups, but for MF … you can beat if by 2-3-5mf at 95+lvl while surrendering tons of res. (skulders, goldwrap, and some crazy ammy)
Can you show a three peace Tal Rasha setup that beats full Tal Rash on MF ? With all the res capped and max damage.
not sure if I can post links here. You can check d2 planner (ti01064m and nh0106zd)
3 piece with harlequin crest and occulus gives exactly 100more mf compared to full tals and 1 more to all skills.
full tals gives all masteries and more resists.
the 3 piece can make up the resist with the rest of the gear and charms/torch/anny.
To each their own, but in my eyes 3 piece is way more versatile and powerful.
First off Occulus is the worst weapon to use. The random teleport is insta death in hell.
If you play with the planer you will see that in order to get your resistances straight you will need to sacrifice either MF or power. If you have time to make a full char with all things that you need to play added to d2 planer you will start seeing the difference.
I am currently running a full Tal’s with 430 MF and all ress capped. 1200 life, 550 mana before CTA. 8K Blizzard and 4.5K Ice Blast. 1640 Defence (3380 after Frozen Armor).
Depending on the situation i can add more MF or power with charms and rings.
Again, if you have time play with the planer and try to beat this setup.
For NM SOJ farm i can go 700MF if needed.
Here is the char, i will be glad if you beat him: an0106ft
You might very well be right (about the total mf/power). I never had such optimized stash.
The occulus love/hate is old as the item - I would change it only for death fathom (SC of ourse)
Anyway - it is a good thing that there are people liking the full set and others preferring the 3 piece - means the design is good.

Don’t get me wrong i am not a Tal Rasha fanatic. I am also searching for other gear builds that can beat my current setup but unfortunately i haven’t seen one yet. If some one makes a better build in d2 planer i will switch to it for sure. But in my humble opinion there is nothing else that can beat full Tal’s for endgame MF.
For pure power/rune farm the story is different. I have this Tal Sorc for MF and Light one for runes.
Hey to each their own, I love occy the instant teleport has saved my butt countless times when i tele into a nasty rare pack and almost die but am saved due to the tele. My playstyle with my blizz / chain sorc is constant tele around while casting anyway so the random times it happens dont bother me much I don’t get hit that often when fighting.
there’s nothing wrong with tal rasha’s set. solidly mid-range gear with great set bonuses and good magic find. it’s easily the best of the sets in the game. the expensive rune words are better, but that’s just how rune words work
