So I decided to start a Classic character due to nostalgia and I’m confused… Mana pots in shop? Synergies? Wtf that’s not “Classic”! >=(
What are you gonna tell me next… That there’s Immunities also?

Maybe it’s not classic, and you F-ed up?
No, I definitely selected the “Classic” flag upon character creation, and in the character ;ost screen, this small flag IS present beside my character’s name.
I guess I really had wrong expectations to begin with, though:
I thought that “Classic” has remained the same as D2 1.06, not taking in regard all the patch changes that have been continuously applied to LoD throughout the years.
However, it appears that said patch changes HAVE been applied to Original as well, such as Mana Pots, synergies, etc.
Guess I’d rather start searching for a 1.06 version of the game then.
That dosen’t suposed to be that way. That’s wierd.
check for yourself and see that I’m right.
btw, I’m on D2R, if that’s not clear enough.
I guessed that much. Will do when I’m not at work.
Yep. Classic has gotten all of the balance patches etc that LoD has. That’s why it makes no sense that Classic got the other QoL features, but not the better stash/shared stash with D2R.
Its classic, not ancient unpatched version…
So in essence, just D2R, without the fifth act and runewords?
Classic doesn’t mean we are using pre 1.10 patches.
The mode is still advancing without the runes/elites/etc. stuff
They just keep our stash small but change the rest for some weird reason.
Classic is suposed to be pre-LoD. No rune words, no synergies. What the Hell?!
it has been like that for almost 2 decades now xD
Well pull my willy. I when I started LoD I thought classic remained the same before LoD. Guess LoD sucked me in so much, I forgot to check on classic.

Huh, so there is quite a bit different then. Can’t really say if any of that would ultimately make the game better or more “fun” Sounds more like just a lesser version overall in my opinion.
No runes or charms. No elite level weapons and armor. No class based weapons or armor except paladin scepters. No exceptional or elite uniques, so normal uniques/sets only. Best items are godly rolled exceptional rares. Throwing weapons can’t roll with magic or rare affixes. Mercs cant be equipped with items and can’t travel across acts so mercs are really weak. Area level tops out at 78 in hell and diablo himself tops out at level 90 so leveling to 99 over the span of ladder is impossible.
Probably some over things, but thats the gist of it.
Check out a program called Cactus for original D2, makes it extremely easy and clean to switch to any D2 patch from 1.00 all the way to 1.14. No need to have separate installations or worry about overwriting files or anything like that.

I still don’t understand why they even bothered to have a “classic” version. Maintaining two separate versions for a game this unpopular is nuts.
wow, that seems amazing! Thanks, will check it out!
How did people think non-expansion meant no updates lmao… I played non-expansion a bunch in classic d2, in many ways PvM is more exciting as everyone is forced to wear pretty much all rares/yellows. PvP on non-expansion is also fun in a very different way, almost feels like LLD on LoD with high level chars. Pgems and in particular pskulls are actually worth a good bit too.
