I’m running a simple mod that only replaces some files in the hd folder. Namely altered some armor appearances and things like removing the sticking arrows from the shields of the summoned skeletons.
I have yet to see any official clarification from the devs, but my reasoning is pretty simple: If it was prohibited, why allow the online game to read modded local files at all, instead of just the original archived data? To ban people for such would be asinine.
Now, I don’t run any 3rd party software that would warrant a ban, so if I do get banned, it should only be because of this. In such a case, if a ticket doesn’t resolve this, at least we have a clear answer.
Updated with a screenshot link in the OP. Dunno how to properly add it though.
Then what exactly is the spirit of the law here? Cosmetic mods can’t be considered cheating, in a game with no MTX no less. There is literally no valid reason to prohibit something like this.
If we got tools to properly use new 3d models, modders could truly add some spice to the game.
That every player is playing under the the same parameters. Just because the game CAN be modded doesn’t imply that the game SHOULD be modded under those conditions.
Do is give you any amount of advantage? Is the cosmetic easier to see on the screen for example?
The valid reason is that you are competing on a ladder with other players. Anything that deviates from the norm that could potentially give you an advantage over others is a valid reason to prohibit something like this, EVEN IF IT EFFECTIVELY DOESN’T GIVE YOU AN ADVANTAGE.
If you are allowed to alter the game, that means other players are allowed to alter the game. Now you’ve created an environment were rather than everyone playing by the same rules, there are never ending arguments and debates over why one persons mod is acceptable but another isn’t. A slippery slope if there ever was one.
Then perhaps the developers should be less vague on the issue. Nonetheless, I’m doing this fully acknowledging the fact that I may, or may not get banned for it.
Absolutely! the only thing is, that my mod doesn’t change anything gameplay wise. Your argument about visibility notwithstanding.
Ever played games like Counter Strike or Left 4 Dead? Now ask yourself if cosmetic mods are truly that controversial.
I find it really difficult to put myself in a mindset of someone who would disagree with me here. Unless it’s someone ignorant enough to immediately think “hacking” or somesuch, when they hear the word modding.
What rules? I remember the devs talking about supporting modding in one of the streams, yet they’ve been vague, by not being clear about the online aspect of it.
The game works online with certain mods, so what rules are exactly being broken here?
Does it work or does it “work” because someone found a way to make it work that wasn’t intended.
You are obviously asking because it’s not know. If it’s not known then it clearly wasn’t intended to be a feature because if it was, it would be listed as one.
If it’s not a feature, and wasn’t intended to be a feature, then it’s an exploit, even if it’s benign.
If you are an adult, this shouldn’t be rocket science.
All depends what you can/can’t mod. For example if you can edit colors used by champs and uniques to make them more visible that for example would be an advantage. Now you can say that you aren’t but opening up the possibility for it to be used, would lead to it being used for advantage. To be fair I wouldn’t care this game is not competitive enough to matter. I still see the reasoning to not allow it for online play.
