Smiterdin questions

I’m looking to make a smiterdin to do my Ubers now that I have a sorc to farm dkeys. What kind of gear should I use, and if I use grief, should I toss on all my 100pdsc’s? I got like 15 of them and was saving them up for a necro or something to this effect. What can y’all tell me?

You don’t need those small charms for a smiter. Your gear should focus on crushing blow, deadly strike, and open wounds, while your charms should just fill in the gaps of whatever you are missing, such as resistances, life, etc.

The extra poison damage isn’t going to be worth giving up the other stuff listed.

Awesome that’s what I needed to know. Il continue to save them for my necro. I have a whole bunch of 5 all res small charms so I should be good there. What about gear. What should I focus on?

I recently finished my smiter and i’ve did my first solo uber trist run yesterday! I have equipped:

Helm: Guillame’s face
Armor: Guardian Angel (i couldn’t afford CoH)
Gloves: Dracul’s grasp (this one is essential)
Belt: Nosferatu Coil (i think this is useless, verdungo’s is propably better)
Boots: Gore rider (upgraded once, so it has a little more defense)
Weapon: Stormlash (unique scourge, it has 33% CB, another option is “black” runeword in a 3 socket scourge which has 40% CB)
Shield: Herald of Zakarum (Um) (i think this one is also quite essential)
Weapon 2: “Call to Arms” runeword for the extra HP boost
Shield 2: “Spirit” runeword in a low-strenght paladin shield
Amulet: Mara’s kaleidoscope (for the all-res)
Ring 1: Raven frost (cannot be frozen)
Ring 2: Bul-kathos wedding band (dwarf star is propably fine too)

I have no torch, skillers or anni in my inventory.

I also have a 3 socket, low str armor with “treachery” runeword. i stand in the fire at the river of flame until the fade buff triggers, then swap back to Guardian Angel armor, then my resistances are all around 90%. this lasts for about 5 minutes.

I have around 150 Str, 130 Dex and all the rest in vitality. None in Energy. With this equipment i have around 1500 HP when buffed (CTA), good resistances and 93% Crushing Blow.

I realise this might be a very low budget build for a smiter that can solo Ubers, but i can assure you, its perfectly doable. You could propably clear the ubers faster and have a better survivability with a Grief and Chains of Honor, but i haven’t gotten the runes for that yet.

But: even with the best gear, Uber Mephisto can still one-shot you (i did solo ubers before D2R). So why bother getting expensive equipment? I think some good resistance, health, and high % Crushing Blow, it’s possible.

Do remember to slowly lure one of the ubers away for the other two. Walk slowly and kill then one-by-one. And DONT lure them towards the exit portal. If you die and one of them is standing on top of the portal, you’ll never get your gear back.

My first torch was a dissapointment though: 10/11 barbarian :frowning: I’m running for new keys now and trying again.

Sorry if my English isn’t correct, it’s not my mother language

Your English is quite good and perfectly understandable. This guide is really helpful because I’ve been thinking about making a smiter for solo Uber runs now that I’m starting to gather some endgame gear. Thanks for the detailed write-up!

Your English is perfect bud. I should have most of those things including the runes for everything but grief cause I need another Lo but super helpful. I’ve got a lot of decent end game equipment and res out the rear end. Maybe I should just restart my 93 Pali and and equip the right equipment. Saves me from spending like 15 hours running myself from Normal through hell again. Thank you very much for all the info.

No problem, good luck on your runs!
I forgot to tell, my smiter is only level 83. Maxed out Smite, Fanaticism and Holy Shield. Put my other points in Resist fire and Resist lightning for the passive bonus.

What should I be using charm wise, combat, defence or offence? I got a whole bunch of both but it sounds like offensive is what I need to use.

I’d focus on defence and survivability. I think any charm with + life, resistances, faster hit recovery would help. Any skillers would probably benefit too, but aren’t really neccesary. Most of the damage you deal comes from Crushing Blow, which decreases the max HP of the enemy each time you hit. More damage with smite comes from the shield you’re using and Grief boosts your damage quite a bit.

You should put all the charms you like in your inventory. Every little bit helps, and the only thing you need to pick up during Ubers are; the organs and the torch. So you really only need 3 free spots in your inventory, the rest can be filled with charms. If you keep a tome of identify/TP/key in your inventory, you can leave them on the floor.

If you deal less damage you can kill the ubers too, it just takes a little longer. Once you hit one of the bosses with life tap from your Dracul’s Grasp gloves, you keep hitting till the boss is dead. Watch your HP and use potions when you get low. Once the lifetap hits (5% chance) you’ll be fine. You gotta have a little luck too, as i said before, even with the best gear, Mephisto can still one-shot you.

To simplify it further, you need to focus on Crushing Blow and Resistances on your gear. but you also need a source of life tap, and cannot be frozen.

Life Tap is easy to get because you can just buy a wand from the shop with Life tap charges and put it on switch.

For cannot be Frozen. Raven Frost is ideal. If you get can’t get that a Rhyme shield is maybe the easiest source, but you have to sacrifice resistance for it. If you can get lucky with something like Kira’s Guardian, Duriel Shell, Trangs belt, or Deaths guard you use those.

For Resistance I like to use Treachery to proc fade, then switch to smoke, and equip a 4os Pally shield with 4 PDiamonds.

For Crushing blow make Black, and then fill out the rest of your equip with crushing blow items. Such as G-face, venom grip, Steel rend, Gore Riders or Goblin toe.
